Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
Friday I had 100 birds, chickens, turkeys, & pheasants. My wife calls me Friday, & found a hen turkey dead. Looks like maybe a heart attack. Then she calls 1/2 hour later & a turkey chick drowned in the horse trough. This morning I put down 2 Yokohama hens that I think have Mariks disease, & about an hour ago, 5 baby turkeys got out of the pasture fence & became dog food. Not a good weekend so far. Down to 91 birds, but 103 eggs of various fowl are incubating, so it won't take long to re-stock.
