I've never had a problem with predators, but what happens? One of my dogs got hold of a chick that got through a place where our dog had torn away some of the chicken wire, so the little one could go through the chain link part. I was just holding this little one this morning and telling her that she was mine, if she was a she. An Australorp. I really wanted one of the Australorp's out of this batch that I just hatched about 6 weeks ago. The pup will be a year at the end of this month, a golden..my little chick didn't last long after that mauling.

My Black Copper Marans made a loud baucking noise, my hubby says, I think you have an egg, which I've been waiting for from her..but I'm pretty sure she was alerting danger. I can't believe how sad I am. Some would say, oh, it's just a chicken. Nope, not just. Been crying off and on all morning.

I want an Australorp really bad to add to my flock. I've had one in the past..so sweet, great layers!
I'm in Utah, if anyone is close by, who has a few Australorps...I'm looking to buy, not do another hatch..this little one was my pick out of the "litter" so to speak. The others may have some Australorp in them, but I would really like a pure one.
I'm so sad...death isn't fun to see.

Sorry Cynthia,
Depending where you are in Utah, you could call around to different IFA stores and see who's getting in Austalorps at the end of the chick season. My IFA down here in St. George is getting some in at the end of this month. I understand the circumstances of the accident, my mother's miniture poodle took some seriously large chunks of feathers out of one of my roosters, I could have strangled him, but it's just instinct. I'm just lucky it didn't happen to one of the chicks i'm raising. Sometimes the greatest threat comes from another beloved pet.
Best wishes on your growing flock!

Hi Rebecca,

I am going to check with Cal Ranch up here in Spanish Fork. They are going to have some come in the morning, they aren't sure what they getting, but will check.

Yes, dogs are dogs, he is a golden, but not hunting..so I don't think he quite knew what to do with it. No, I didn't smack my dog. We just fixed the chicken wire, put it on the inside of the coop area..hello! So, a lesson learned. Haven't had that problem before, but we've only had this guy for a year in a couple of months. He was probably thinking, it's a bird, I know I'm supposed to do something with a bird..

Thank you for replying...good to see someone else on here from Utah. We are supposed to get some rain the next couple of days up here. April showers.
