Lost a chick by suffocation

Thought I'd put this info out to prevent others from doing the same mistake. I was really dumb. The past week, when I would put the chicks in the coop, they were all next to the coop all huddled up and some would be in a PVC tube. I thought it to be too cute at the time. Until yesterday I come home and one is stuck in there and dead. Another one was in further but was okay. I figured once he got in there he couldn't get out because he was bigger than he thought, plus the other was blocking any air coming from the other side. I was so stupid not to even think of the consequences.

I know my sister -in-law used pvc tubes for feeders. They were designed so she could just pour feed in from the top and then part was cut out at the bottom so they could have access to it. Kinda like in an L shape. I don't understand any other reason for the use of pvc in the coop. I'm new at this, is there something I'm missing?
You do have my sympathy, try not to feel to bad.

I'm so sorry, I've had toys turn bad too, boards to climb on that fall, buckets that turn over, etc. you feel kinda stupid at the time, but you meant no harm. and thank you for posting this to help others

if it helps to suffocate is a "good" way to go, I'm sure it never had any idea what was happening.

thanks to all, the pvc was there to block them from going underneath the coop, never thought of closing the sides.

I feel so bad cause your loss helped me. I have drainage tile around my coop cause of the water. I haven't buried it yet, but I will asap. Lord I feel so bad. Hugs from Syracuse.
