Help! I was gardening this afternoon and since it was so nice outside, and since I was uncovering so many juicy bugs, I thought the chicks might like to join me. I have heard of others on here who take their chicks out for day trips. Well as soon as I set her down she ran under the deck. I couldn't get her to come out, even when I tempted her with a worm. She must have gone out the other side or something, but she is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! Help!

P.S. Do my chicks hate me?

oh my gosh! i am so sorry! i'm glad i read your story though, cuz i was preparing my garden a couple days ago and i saw some termites in one of my garden plots! and i remember thinking 'I can't wait till my chicks are here so they can eat these bugs'....and i was gonna bring them out when they were just a week old....just for a little outing.....but now i don't know! how old is your chick? does she know any special food calls? (like: heerrreee chick chick....or something that you do when you feed them?) that's a good way to get her to come to you. do you hear her peeping anywhere? i hope you find her! please keep us updated!

do you have a small crate that you can set nearby where she went in? something to contain the other chicks so she can hear them and see them so she will come out?

I found her! I spotted her sitting behind the trash can. After chasing her around and around, I was finally able to capture her when she tried to squeeze into a too small spot and got stuck.

Lesson learned! I will not take my chicks outside until I have a safe place to let them explore in!!

So glad you found her! When I take them out, I always make sure they are somehow contained. I bought a really large plastic laundry basket and cut out most of the bottom, so I pop them in there and it keeps them where I can see them.

That's a good idea, Liz. I wonder if I could also just turn a laundry basket over and keep them under it? Might work, and wouldn't have to sacrifice a laundry basket!

as long as you don't leave their side.....a few years back, i did that and i watched them out my kitchen window. i turned my back for only a minute or 2, and a dog got to them!
