Lost a chick last night

I lost one of my 4 week old NHR chicks last night. All others seem fine, they were all sitting away from the body when I got up this morning. Only thing different was that I offered them a few meal worms yesterday afternoon for the first time. Not too many (approx. 20-30 worms for 14 chicks). Maybe this one ate most of them and got sick? Looks like the chicks pecked at her head after she died. Yuck.

Awww....sorry to hear that! It happens all the time in chicken world, but it's always hard!!!

Very sorry to hear that! I doubt it had anything at all to do with the mealworms-sometimes it just happens as sad as it is.

Lost a 2nd one on Sunday. It was a 5 ft yellow rat snake!!! Don't have any idea how it got into the coop...DH has it totally pred proof. But, we caught it in the act. DH took care of it. All we can guess is that it sliped in when we had the door open to change food and water. Uggh!

Snakes are sneaky critters, they can fit into some pretty tight spaces. Glad your DH got a hold of him though-at least you won't have to worry about him anymore. So sorry to hear you lost another.
