Lost a hen today :-(

Well I noticed this afternoon when I let my chickens free range that only 3 came out of the coop instead of four. One of my americans was there in the shavings dead. I examined her but can't find anything wrong. No cuts, no feather loss, she was of good weight, and laid every day. It wasn't cold enough last night to kill her i don't think and there was no sign of anything getting in the coupe. Any thoughts on the cause? I just got some new chicks but they all seem healthy minus some runny poo and they are separated from my hens.

There's no telling what caused her death without a necropsy. Sometimes these things happen with birds. Sorry for your loss.
