I think I'd get a little kiddie pool and see how that works out. Maybe they are getting drowned from mating?

Snapping turtles will pull them under an drown them then eat. Look on you tube for videos. I’d def get them out of the pond and get rid of your snapping turtles. There is always a chance it’s the drakes but it sounds like snappers to me.
