Hello all. My name is Jerry and i live in MS. Me and the wife recently decided we wanted to buy a few chickens. Mostly looking for eggs but will enjoy the hobby of it as well.Nothing on a large scale for us right now. Just gonna build a small pen with only a few chickens to start with. Then get more down the road if we like it. Right now i'm just doing all the reading and learning i can before i start buying.


I read quite a bit on the forum before i joined up. Founds lots of good info so far.

mississippifarmboy, i see you are in Glen. I live just southwest Tupelo, close to the Natchez Trace Parkway. I work construction for a living and been doing some work in your area. Right on the side of HWY 72 on the new Water Treatment Buildings.

Down the road is a short trip, so make sure you have enough room in the begining

Find what size coop/pen you need and add 50%, doing it now will save you trouble in the long run. We started with four hens, thinking that is all we needed, and had nine within three months. We want to add more this spring and that will require a 2nd and/or larger coop.

It is amazing how quickly you want more and more and more, luckily my DW keeps me in check.
