Lost chicks after hatch by leaving them in the incubator

I don't think my temps were off but I am pretty sure they hatched early because they had been sitting in a hidden nest outside for days before I found them and brought them in. Our temps have been hot, hot, hot here so pretty easy to start an egg developing.

Live and learn! I will definitely be swooping in to get the chicks out when they are dried off next time.

Hmm. I've left chicks in the incubator for well over 48 hours before (due to a long drawn out hatch) and they've been fine. They didn't even look mildly lethargic or dehydrated by the time I took them out. I wonder if there was maybe something else going on here as well...

Though in general I'd agree with what everyone else has said - it's absolutely best not to leave them in for too long if you don't really have to!
