Lost feathers

I have 13 hens and 1 roo. I have 4 hens that have lost feathers from over mating especially Buddy's favorite. I have read about getting or making saddles for them. Where would I go to purchase these or how would I go about making some? I can't seem to find any mention of them any where else. Please help they are geting pretty bare and very red. I was hoping free ranging them now that winter is over would help but it hasn't seemed to. I could seperate the roo but I hate to because he would be cooped up all day with a very small run and he wouldn't be able to protect the girls.
