Lost half our flock

It's like saying if a dog that was never trained to sit and you tell it to sit and it doesn't it's just a stupid dog it should automatically know and her fiancé dog is ya pretty much her dog she's about to spend to rest of her life with him I hope you don't own very many animals cause you know nothing about them sadly

after giving it some thought, you are right, i apologize.

keeping an animal around that will kill off one of your food sources is a much better solution.

I can see you've only been a member for a month but I promise you giving people bad advice isn't a thing that these forums try to do I'm not going to reply to you again or get into your game your playing I'm putting you on ignore cause I never want to frankly read another post you write you can get a lot of help and fun out of this app but telling people who are upset and grieving over there animals to shoot another one who was just doing what comes natural to it after being left alone and never trained isn't help or fun I hope in your future post you take these forums serious good luck to you and any animals you own

so...city slicker. got it.

look, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it was bad advice. it's just advice you disagree with, and that is fine.

the advice i gave her could help her get closure and avoid similar problems she'd likely face again in the future. if that's a bad thing i am fine with that. i genuinely tried to help her, but the advice is worth exactly what she paid for it. if she ignores it, that is fine. if you don't like it, that is fine too.

i truly feel for her... i had a bird savaged by a dog a few weeks back. lucky for the dog the neighbor saw it happen and i didn't.

use the snowflake button if you like...i'll not lose any sleep over it.

i've been on here for years. what does how long i've been signed up have to do with anything? does that matter anywhere other than junior high?

As weird and horrible as it may sound, there is a point here. BUT I think at least some people here have chosen sides and not everyone is considering what is *also* important here: OP lost half her beloved birds to her PARTNERS dog. That's a tricky one to navigate.

CONSIDER - OP's partner probably wouldn't want the dog shot, OP may even have feelings for it. OP and Partner need to
a) get the dog trained
b) be vigilant
c) have PREMADE decision on the course of action to be taken if a similar situation is to repeat itself in future.

Some dogs will never be trained out of a bad habit, that's a fact but that doesn't mean you don't first try, surely?

sure, try if you like, but if more of your birds get killed....

now you're down more birds and it's another point of contention between you and your spouse and that's the last thing newlyweds need.

i guess i just have a different philosophy. if an animal i owned caused that much pain to my woman or family and threatened one of my food sources it'd be gone in a heartbeat. as a man i put my family and loved ones well-being ahead of my own feelings about some da*n animal. if i didn't, i wouldn't be a man.

so don't shoot it (that's just the easiest thing to do)...take it to a shelter, sell it, give it away...whatever. to each his own, and i'd wish them all good fortune and happiness.

what i do find strange though is that the majority of humans (myself excepted) are fine destroying a human who's killed another human, but they are not okay with destroying an animal that has killed another animal or multiple animals. perhaps someone can explain that one to me. : )

I would not shoot my fiances childhood dog for attacking my chickens that have only been there since February. I scolded her. Got a stronger lead. And when the chickens are free ranging in the evening from 5 to 8, while we come up with funds for a gated run, she is only allowed out to pee and come right back in supervised.

I am very angry at what she did,but its like giving a snake a rat and telling him to play nice. Nature is as nature is.

My sis has two dogs that won't mess with the chickens (anymore).. the Alpha hen got her ONCE and she shies away from them ever since! Even when they moved to a new state and had to start a new flick, dog won't mess with them (the 2nd dog is 4lbs soaking wet.. and not allowed to chase hens).

If I'm not mistaken he got her when he was 15 and he is now 30. Shes pretty old. I'm suprised she kept up with the chickens! Theres one other theory that a stray dog got them and she stopped them, but she didn't have any marks. So well never really know.

a friend of mine has 3 dogs and one free-ranging chicken on a 6 acre farm with no coop in the middle of varmitville. the chicken sleeps with the dogs so nothing eats it. the dogs are extremely protective of it.

dogs are a lot like people...some are extremely useful, other not so much.
