Ya'll, I lost the keys to my chicken run! I went to let them out yesterday afternoon and I couldn't find the keys anywhere! They're usually on the counter right next to the back door and now they aren't. I was in a panic yesterday, well I still am because I can't let them out. They have a full waterer and I've been throwing the food in the run today. But I wasn't home much Saturday so I didn't collect eggs and then Sunday I couldn't and today we have to get some bolt cutters to cut the lock off, so I can let my babies out.

They're happy and they don't know they're stuck in there so its okay. But I just can't believe that I lost the keys! How dumb could I be to lose the keys to my animals?! I just want to punch myself in the face for doing this!

I'll let you know when I cut the lock off and free my poor birds!

You wont get anywhere by punching yourself in the face. All you will get is a black eye which will doubtless hinder any ability to look for the keys!

I once lost keys to the patio doors. They were missing for months. In the end DH decided he would simply drill the lock and change the barrel. He worked away at it and then tried to fit the new barrel which was too long. So he went out to get a shorter one. Just as he left the sun shone through the hall window and I caught a glimps of something shiny in the bottom of the umbrella stand. Sure enough there were the original keys!!!!!!! Found them the day DH drilled the lock so I got the keys and NO lock!

You have to see the funny side of these things.

Thanks Oes, that made me laugh. Hahaha at least I'm not the only one who does silly things like this.

Well let me tell you what JUST happened with the chicken coop.
Last night the hub and I were talking, he needs a new hacksaw blade to cut through the kind of lock that is on my coop. So I asked what I could do to get them out sooner. He said, tip it over! First I should say that they're in a temperary run, which is a 10 x 12 dog pen. With their house in it and a perch. Not great but it was holding up until I figured out what I wanted to do for their real permenent run. (I had to lock them up, because in their free ranging they were going into a neighborhood behind my house and acting wild and crazy.)
Okay, so I went out there 20 mins ago and decided that I was going to tip it over. I tipped it up on its side, the chickens got out like I wanted. Then I realized that I couldn't tip it all the way over because of a tree. So I went to the short side and tipped it up. WELL, IT BROKE. One of the long side bottom metal pipes snapped in half! HHAHAHAHAHA so now, I have this horrible mess around their house! I can't believe this happened! Its so crazy. But now, the good thing is; I'll get a permanent run built in the next few days, so I can't procrastinate anymore! So I guess it all worked out.
Just a crazy day though. I'm so glad they ran out when I told them to, or this post may not as funny to me.

Hope you get things all fixed up here soon. Try looking in pant pockets for the keys, I tend to leave everything in them. That's where I found the pool keys today.

I will be starting a new run tonight once we get the materials. So hopefully in the next few days, my chickens will have a lovely place to live.

If you have kids, look in the cookie jar, behind the toilet, in the ice tray, inside your couch cushions ( like if they are zipper covers), and the dog kennel. Thats all the places i can think of right now where we have found missing keys. I know there are more but you might try those. Oh and the cats automatic feeder. That was a really good one.

Yes and the bin and the umbrella stand!
Oh - um fridge? I lost my whole handbag once and found it in there? It was a seniour moment!

Oes

The fridge was the first place I looked! Hahaha my brain doesn't work well in the mornings, so if I feed the birds before I drink my coffee, the coffee is done when I come in. So I usually have the keys in my hand when I get the creamer out. So I have found them in the fridge before! Sad, I know. I looked in all the unusual spots. They don't seem to be anywhere. My son doesn't have access to them, as hes gated from in the kitchen because of the rabbit. So who knows where they went. The strange thing is, a lot of things in my house have been misplaced, so either my husband is trying to "organize" things or there is a ghost thats rearranging things in my house! LOL

We did get the lock off though, after I destroyed the run. LMAO. My husband came in after he put the run back right, and asked if I found the key? I said no, if i found it why would I have destroyed that run like that? He handed me the open lock. I just wanted to scream! I think in all the destruction of the run yesterday, it opened the lock.
Its funny how things work out, isn't it?
