Lost my duck this morning

Awoke to find my Rouen duck had passed in the night. It was so sad watching the drake try to nudge her awake and refusing to leave the coop.

I only had 2 birds, so how will my drake handle this? Will he be lonely forever, should I seek out more ducks and if so, will he accept new ladies?

He was calling out for his mate by their pool this morning when I left for work. Very depressing.

I’m very sorry about your duck, and the drake’s calling must be heartbreaking.:hugs

When my two ducks were hurt, the drake was left alone and he just stood and quacked sad, lonely quacks for days until they could join him. He wouldn’t even eat or drink.

I think you should try to find some more ducks - the drake will most likely easily accept them :).

Awe, love.. I’m so sorry :hugs For you and your boy. It’s always so hard losing any animal.

Last year, I went from 3 ducks to 1 duck in a single night. My remaining boy was so confused and pitiful.. but I’ll never forget his happy tail wags when I brought home 2 new girls. His love for them hasn’t changed a bit ❤️

I’d certainly try to find your boy some new ladies, but in the mean time, you can give him a mirror to feel less alone.

I am so sorry! I also recently lost one of Roens hens. I wasn't there, I was on vacation but my dad was with her when she passed and I think my other Roen misses her. I would consider getting him a friend since ducks are very social. You could look at adopting some more drakes and have a bachelor group as there are always drakes looking for a good home. Or getting a few hens would be fine as well.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is really hard to loose a feather baby
