last evening. Last night she was droopy; feathers fluffed and sleepy-eyed. Checked her over for mites/lice - nothing (all the birds were wormed / dusted in June and, so far, no other chickens are exhibiting symptoms). Iris is at the state lab now for necropsy. I currently have another hen from the same pen that has been in isolation for a little over 2 weeks with what I suspected to be a fungal infection that I treated using Oxine (that particular hen is doing well in her recovery). Keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not dealing with something else.

I'm glad that you are having a necropsy done. Please post your results so the rest of us can learn from it.

Sorry for your loss

Got the necropsy back on Iris. Diagnosis: "Severe Gout." Further tests are being conducted for common poultry diseases such as MG, MS and Infectious Bronchitis and they'll report those findings when they're available.

I didn't even know chickens could get gout.

Wow, I thought you were gonna say older....

Have you done any research on gout in chickens? I just might have to do some just to find out how common it is.
