This afternoon, after feeding the horses, I noticed that only 4 chickens were following me into their coop. After carefully assessing who was present, my daughter and I began calling for Ariel. We walked around the house, then past the storage shed..........at which point I saw a pile of feathers along the fence line.
I guess Ariel and I had some good bonding moments when she injured one foot (ripped the toenail off one toe and dislocated another), 'cuz after her recovery period she started following me around. She even decided she like riding in the hay cart if I was pushing it somewhere. She was one of my most consistent layers. I honestly don't think she ever missed a day, even while laid up. She will be missed.
