I lost my first chick today and I dont know what happened. It was my red laced cornish (altho Im not 100% sure thats what it was). I had noticed that it was actin a little wierd sometimes and then other times it would seem perfectly fine. A couple days ago when I went to feed them I put the food down and they all mobbed the tray as usual and I noticed it was gettin trampled and just layin there so I picked it up and looked it over and it seemed fine. I set it back down in the cage and it started walkin around actin fine so I figured it had gotten startled in the stampede. Then yesterday it did the same thing again when I went to put them outside. It was just layin in the bottom of the transport box so I picked it up and set it on the ground and again it started walkin around and peckin the ground like normal. I wasnt sure what to do about it so I just let it be. It seemed to be eatin and drinkin fine. Then when I went to feed them tonight I saw it layin by the feeder dead. Im heartbroken. It wasnt friendly at all but I had really wanted to see what it grew up to look like. As I got to lookin around in the cage for my other one like it I didnt see it and got scared and then I spotten it layin down just like the other one had been doin earlier this week. I took it out and put it in a seperate box with its own food and water with some save-a-chick in it.
What could have happened to it? How can I make sure this other chick survives? The chicks are 8.5 weeks old and they still live inside in the brooder. I know thats not helpin anything then bein inside still but they do have a pen they go into during the day so they can be outside for at least a little while and this weekend we plan on makin that a more permanent thing.
