lost my first chicken last night

My meekest (bottom of the pecking order out of 10) was found dead yesterday. No sign of injury and perfectly healthy the night before. My 8 month olds still sleep together and not on the roost (I think - based on where the chicken poops are). They like to be together at the corner of the coop. I know as chicks it is possible for one to be smothered at the bottom of a pile but is it possible for the same thing to happen to an 8 month old?

It is fairly common that runts die. If I ever lose a chick it is usually a runt. The others may have excluded it out of the group knowing that it had a weakness. Sorry about your loss.
