I AM VERY SORRY ABOUT YOUR LOSS I HAVE JUST LOST MY FIRST CHICKEN THIS EVENING AND WORST OF ALL IT WAS MY FRIENDS DOG THAT DID IT.WHAT AM I MEANT TO DO SHE WAS DEVASTATED AND I HAD TO BE BRAVE BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO UPSET HER ANYMORE
sent Lucy to UC Davis. I'm sad that I couldn't give her a place to rest, but I feel its more important to find out why she died for the health & safety of my other hens. the UPS guy was surprised that i put her name in the description of the contents...
she was one of my 'girls' though. I'll post the results as soon as I hear back from UC Davis. Thanks for bringing that option to my attention.
oh wow. I am so sorry for your loss... I had one just up and die also... about 2 weeks ago. She acted just different for a day or 2 before and then I found her dead. None of my others have shown any symptoms and its been 2 weeks. I wish I had known about the necropsy. Its sure is bothering me to know what got her. Dang, I've been saying her... it was a roo.. anyway, thanks for the info... just in case...
Akyramoto,
I'm so sorry about Lucy. I had the exact same thing happen and my girl was named Lucy, too!! I had a necropsy done and it turned out her liver burst and she bled to death. Only good thing was she didn't have anything the others could get! You did the right thing to find out what happened. Please let us know when you get the results, k?
I recieved some paper work today on Lucy - but they didn't put it in laments terms. From what I'm reading she had " fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome". It also says she was obese. ( which personally i find hard to believe - the RIR look alot more slender than my other girls - but then again, i'm not a vet).
It says 'the precise etiology is not certain, but is tis assumed to be related to fattty infiltration of the liver hemorrhage & hematoma formation within the liver. Various tests are in progress and another report will be forthcoming."
Here's an article on liver hemorrhagic syndrome from Miss. State Univ. It sounds similar to fatty liver disease in parrots. I'm am sorry you lost Lucy.
