So I woke friday to a truly heartbreaking thing. Something had ripped up the bottom of my duck pen and stoled all 4 of my babies all they left was 10 white feathers. It still makes me sad to think about them I'd had them a lil over a month and got them when they were tiny. R.i.p Marley, Bullzeye, lightning and ivy. :-(

Thank you i was devastated and cried like I had just lost my cat or dog cause to me it's the same. Then we walked the whole section hoping one got away but no luck. My amazing hubby went out that day and brought home 4 more 2 dat old ducklings but when i look at them a part in my heart still hurts for my other ducks.

IThought my cage was safe and i never thought 1 predator 1 night could take out all my babies.

Aw I'm so sorry! I too lost a lot of my flock, they were chicks though. The first one went missing when they were only 4 days old, we didn't find any traces of her, but she was just so tiny

. We thought it was my cat so we made sure to keep the door closed and the other 3 chicks safe (we were already, but we were more cautious this time.) This worked fine for a while, but when they were 3 weeks old we found two others dead

It turned out to be my chihuahuas! We still have one from that flock, and we got two more a couple weeks ago. I know how you feel, I was devistated, so was Sunshine (the surviving chick). It was really hard both times. My friend gave me some good advice though, she said that I gave them the best life that I could, and that they were happy. So just remember that, it helped me

I'm really really really sorrya bout your ducklings!

Thank you. We're pretty sure it was a pack of coyotes, either that or somebodys large dogs. Either way they were ballsy crossed my horse pasture to come within 50 ft of my house to break into a pen attached to a barn stall inside the horse pen. I guess the one thing i can be thankful for is my the rest of my flock 7 pullets and 2 young turkeys were in the next stall over. Needless to say my new ducks will spend every evening locked safely in the coop from now on instead of the fenced in stall an run.

It is funny, how attached we can get to our birds---we lost a bantam hen to a hawk right after we brought them home, and it was awful...then we got another hen exactly like the one we lost and I kept accidentally calling her the other hen's name and then feeling bad about it all over again! It's all a learning experience for me...everyone said a hawk wouldn't come up close to the house, or try to take a chicken while I was out with them, and I've had BOTH happen! We just do the best we can...sounds like your husband is a keeper, LOL!
