Lost Nugget today 😪

I’m not sure what happened, yet heart crushing. I found Nugget and Poppy, Speckled Sussexes, roosting on the edge of the brooder this morning. It was a mile mark for both of them.

I put them outside like we have been for about a week in a half now between 10am-3:30pm.Temperatures for the today was 60s-65 slightly higher. They had fresh water and I sprinkled some of their chick cereal mix in the brooder.

when I came back to find poor Nugget, limped over and her lazy eye glazed over. I’m so sad. I buried her underneath the rose bush.

Some back context about Nugget: She stumbled around when I first got her. Low on electrolights our local honey into water she perked right up! Than she seemed fine. Cutest little chirps. Poppy definitely dominate chick. Would block Nugget from eating. Nugget appeared to stop growing - she was the larger one of the two than Poppy outgrew her.

I replaced her immediately- poppy seems to have been fine when free ranging earlier but now seems to be grieving.

meanwhile new chick is an Easter egg Bantam and sweet as can be. Literally snuggling into my arms and flying into my shoulders! Think there name to be Spice.

she seems traumatized from being bird napped from growing up in a place of many of her kind. In a way, Spice can show Poppy how to be a real chicken. Like a big sister.

they seem to be adjusting- traumatizing day for everyone.

Did she eat something she wasn't supposed to? Aka foods that are toxic to them?

She only looks like she is about three weeks old at the most. She would need temperature at about 80°, not 60 to 65°.

A few days over 5 weeks

She was a few days over 5 week mark. Per the chart I got from the breeder it says pullets between 5-7 weeks can go outside when temperatures are above 60. Must have been too cold. She did seem to stop growing as the other one caught up to her in size and doubled.
