i froze their water, gave them frozen treats, misted them, and one of the poor little goobers went inside the blocked off (!!!) nest box and died of the heat...i assume she squeezed inside the curtain and couldn't find her way out. i'm so glad dh's drummer was here--i wasn't mentally prepared to find that, and he took her body with him when he left...i'm so mad at myself, but i checked on them every 2 hours, and they were hot, but ok. i didn't think to count, though...and i don't know how i could have counted that many...but i really didn't know they could squeeze in there...

i hope she just fell asleep and didn't wake up...poor little thing, i'm sad...we've made some modifications to the coop to increase the breeziness of it, and hopefully that makes a big difference...thanks for reading this...i know a lot of you have lost birdies, and it really is sad, especially when i might have kept it from happening...

Sorry... I'm so glad we've had a cool May and June so far.... only hit 102 today... that's like spring here.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's not like you locked her in there; she chose to be there. Bad things happen despite our best attempts sometimes. Hang in there!

oh, thats awful. i just got home and was missing a chick, finally found her wedged between the wall and a nest box - would have sworn there was no way for her to fit in there. i rescued her just in time, otherwise I'm sure I would have lost her too.

It is sad, and you do feel bad, but remember you are doing your darndest and you can't stop everything that could hurt one of your chicks. please don't blame yourself.

I am so sorry

Sounds like you did everything possible, don't beat yourself up. Easy to say, hard to do. I know I'd feel just like you if I lost one, but it really isn't your fault. Sometimes things just happen.

im sorry for your loss. i had a girl missing for 2 days and i found her behind her coop upside down and she was very raw shes good now again im sorry for yor loss this heat is just scorching

I have been putting ice cubes in the water container and misting my outside grow out pens several times a day. I also have dirt pans in the pens so they can dust. It has been getting close to 100 degrees here and yesterday with the heat index it was 119! Is there anything else I can be doing? I have 1-3 month olds in my grow out pens right now.
