Yesterday I went out to give the girls some fresh water and retrieve the eggs when one of the girls was laying in between the water and food all puffed up sleeping or so I thought. I picked her up and she and she opened her eyes and the closed them. I set her back down and she slowly fell over and did not move.I could tell she was still breathing so I moved her under the nest boxes.
Where she was laying was a wet spot in the bedding that the other hens started picking at.
The wife went out to check on her about an hour later and she was dead.

Any Ideas on what could have been wrong with her?
She was not quite 2 yrs old.

Thanks Randy

How old was she? Had she been laying?

sorry for your loss.........

Sorry for your loss. I have no idea why she died, but maybe if you post more info one of the BYC experts can help (was there anything wrong with her physically that you could see? had you noticed any loss of appetite, funny smell, weird behavior, etc., before she passed?)
Also, you can always contact your local ag department and find out where to send her for a free necropsy. It's a good idea in case whatever killed her could be transmitted to the rest of your flock.

need more info..hard to guess without any symptom info.

but sounds like she could have had a problem laying an egg..
eggbound or soft shelled egg that broke inside.
did you check her vent? could she have been pecked while trying to lay?

are there any odd droppings?
did you check her crop?
any peck marks?
was she thin?
