We ordered 15 (got 17) chicks from McMurray Hatchery a week and half ago. Our Turken died today (we have a mixture and we don't know all the breeds yet, but she was our only Turken). She seemed tired a lot, but I wasn't as concerned as I should have been. Do I need to worry about the others? We live at 9,200 feet. The are currently in our clawfoot tub. We have been moving the heat lamp up and down based on their behavior (huddling under the lamp, moving away, etc). We had a cold spell and snow storm on Tuesday, so we moved the lamp down again. Temp has been between 80- 90 depending on their needs. We are feeding chick crumbles and electrolyte water. We have straw on the bottom.
Please help. I don't want to lose any more.

It sounds like the chick that died may have been dehydrated or too warm. This may not have been your fault though, it could have just been a dodgy chick that had trouble hatching or something seeing as none of your other chicks have had any problems, I wouldn't worry too much unless you start to see any other chicks acting the same way.

Hope this helped :)

After doing some research, I am wondering if it was Coccidiosis. How can I be sure the other's don't get it? They were all supposed to be vaccinated before they were shipped. Is this a true preventer?
