Lost Scout

Ezra's stomach was in a knot, he thought he was going to vomit. Despite his misgivings, however, his outward appearance was remarkably calm. It needed to be if they were going to have any chance at finding Danielle, and he was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant rescuing her. That resolve made him focused and determined, even if he was also afraid.

Following Jasper's lead, he leapt to the side and took cover behind a thick tree, watching from behind the trunk.

Aelfric stayed hidden as well, unwilling to invite trouble before Strider returned with his report. He allowed himself a sigh of relief when the orcs moved closer to them, but then continued on their path and didn't notice the men hidden nearby.

When Strider returned, Aelfric motioned for him to come closer so that he keep his voice low. "There were two that just passed by here a few minutes ago. Did you find their camp?"

A wave of guilt washed over Gytha as he showed her the plethora of scars covering him and her will to kill the creature vanished quickly. "I didn't know..." she said, lowering the stick, thinking of the lash marks across her own back and feeling a surge of empathy for the creature. "I'm sorry. I thought... I thought..." she took a deep breath, certain the creature knew exactly what she had though. "I'm sorry. Please show me."

Gomez tipped his head to the side and eyed her approvingly. "Don't apologize, you are right to be cautious. We should get moving though, I'm surprised the orcs aren't here yet." He turned around and began to head in the same direction that he had started to lead her before. As his head turned, the shadow caused by his own body against the sun hid the cruel smirk which cross his face. "This way, Gyyyyytha..."

Strider nodded and knelt down to draw a rough map in the dirt, explaining what he had seen at the camp. "No sign of any of the girls we're looking for. " he said when he finished

Ruby pushed away from her reaching hand, mumbling something into the gag as she prepared to fight for her life. She pushed at her bound hands, trying to get free, or bring them to the front

As large as she was, Ghegari was too wide to fit far enough through the cage door to actually reach the back of the enclosure. She growled with frustration as Ruby managed to evade her grasp, and backed out of the door for a moment to grab a stick that was resting up against the wall nearby. Apparently this was not a new thing to the orc cook, because the stick was curved on one end to hook around the occupants of the cage and drag them closer. She pressed herself against the door again and reached with the curved stick this time for Ruby. The instrument was crude, but effective as she managed to get it around the girl's waist and began jerking her forward.

Aelfric studied the map, listening closely to Strider's description of the orcs and the camp, trying to not let his last statement make him lose hope. "Were you able to tell what the commotion and yelling a bit ago was about?"

"Apparently an escape, from what I could tell. Don't know how many. I couldn't get that close without being seen. " Strider said.

Ruby struggled to get free of the hook before she could get dragged within reach of the orcs hand.

Ezra looked around them, half expecting a fleeing human to go ripping by at any moment. When nothing happened, he considered what Strider had said. "Perhaps it was one of the girls who escaped? You said you didn't see any of them?"

Strider nodded, but glanced to the camp again, he had a strange feeling that his Ruby was still there, and needing help. "Weather it is or not, theres still a lot of humans there that need help, and a lot of places to hide the girls. "

Ruby struggled to get free of the hook before she could get dragged within reach of the orcs hand.

Seeing that Ruby was attached to the stick and being dragged closer, Ghegari jerked it harder like a fisherman trying to hook. At the same time, she reached with her free hand and lunged towards Ruby's arm to grab her.

Ruby's scream of fear and revulsion was muffled by the gag. She fought hard, then suddenly pushed towards the orc, slipping her arm free, and trying to move back again before she could grab her.
