Lost Scout

As soon as the girl's attention was on the rather mundane track that Laethros was pointing at, Charles quickly wrapped his arms around Raven's torso, pinning her arms tightly to her side while the older man promptly removed her weapons. "Sorry, lass," he said, not really sounding sorry at all.

"Hey! Let go" Raven said and tried to get free from the hold Charles had on her. She looked to Laethros when he took her weapons, confused and hurt by the betrayal. "What do you think your doing?"

"I see." He wasn't telling her anything she hadn't already been strongly suspecting, except the part about these woods once being orc territory. The thought actually gave her a small bit of hope. If mankind had expelled them from the land before, they could do it again.

As they walked, the adrenaline that had fueled the scout's initial run and had powered her to keep moving was beginning to wear off. She couldn't help but think about how thirsty, hungry, sore, & tired she was; not necessarily in that order. While no stranger to the occasional hardships associated with living off the land for days, sometimes weeks, at a time, the past 6 days of orcish hospitality had taken a large toll on her. She wondered briefly if Aelfric would even recognize her.

She shook away the thought. "Any chance our path crosses a stream?" she asked hopefully.

"Actually yes," Gomez sounded delighted that she had asked. "Although, calling it a stream might be a little bit of an understatement. I would call it more of a river, but if water if what you're looking for then I suppose its all the same anyway." In the brief moments between their footsteps the faintest sounds of running water could be heard through the trees. Slowly, the forest grew lighter and lighter as they approached a large break in the trees and the sound of the water grew louder. Soon after, Gomez broke out of the thick forest and onto an area of slimy, wet rocks covered in moss. The rocks formed much of the edge of a fairly large river which burbled and slashed as it went by. "Not far now, Gytha." The little man looked excited as his feet touched the water. "Not far at all."

Vorgak growled at Orkhan's insult as he got quickly back to his feet and retorted something along the lines of "$@%! you". Wasting no more time, he plunged after the horse and rider. The third orc was already sprinting after the horse. In his hand he held a heavy club with blunted metal studs embedded in the wood. Angry that the slave seemed to be escaping, he put all his might into throwing the club at Charles, hoping to simply knock the human from the horse.

Orkhan picked up his fallen knife which had missed the beast by about 4 inches. He too took up chase behind the sprinting horse, but knew that the effort was futile. There was no way even a fit orc could keep pace with a running horse, they were just too fast. The only thing he could think to do was somehow herd them towards the orc camp, that way they would have a much better chance at cornering the slave and capturing him. It was dangerous, he knew, as they risked injuring another orc, but he also could risk the man getting away. "Herd them towards the camp!" He shouted in orc tongue at his companions.

Ruby smiled when Ghegari backed away from her. She carefully dropped down to get off the table without slipping in the sticky mixture. She sent a quick glance to her father then advanced on the orc, intent on freeing the Danielle.

Strider moved forward quickly, risking another hit with the pan in order to cut the girl free from the ceiling

Ghegari pulled the girl closer towards the wall to limit the angles in which Strider and Ruby could approach her. The ropes which held Danielle's wrists creaked as they were stretched, but it did more harm to her then to the ropes. As Strider got closer, Ghegari swung the pan out blindly towards him, aiming for nothing in particular. She hoped the motion in itself would be enough of a warning for him to back off and leave while he had one girl free.

Strider cursed and backed away from the pan. He shook his head and glanced to Ruby then back to the orc. He frowned then flipped his dagger and threw it, aiming for the orcs eye to take her out quickly. As soon as he threw the dagger he pulled his bow forward, notching an arrow then drawing the string back.

Ruby paused in her advance when her father was forced back from Danielle. "Let her go" She said, partially to draw the orc's attention to her so Strider could attack.

Ghegari flinched as the light caught Strider's dagger and she was able to duck just in time before the weapon struck the wall next to her head and remained stuck in the wood. The move startled her badly, and when she seen Strider arming the bow she decided that rather then risking her own life, she would let these three slaves go and get new ones to play with. Glancing briefly at Ruby, she shoved Danielle forward so that the girl would swing towards Strider and made a dash for the door.

Strider was forced to lower his weapon so he wouldn't hurt the girl. He glanced to Ruby "Get her down" He said then went to the door to look out and make sure the orc wasn't coming back in.

Ruby nodded and approached Danielle, catching her to stop her swinging, then cutting her down with her father's sword. She lowered Danielle to the floor so she could cut the ropes away from her. "Can you run?" She asked quickly, knowing it wouldn't take long for other orcs to come. She didn't know about the fire distraction.

Charles kept a surprisingly strong grip on the struggling girl.

"Making sure you don't ruin everything, girl", Laethros answered sharply. "Don't intend on hurtin' you ... if you don't cause too much of a fuss," he added with a hint of a threat to his voice. He produced a length of rope and began binding her wrists together.

Gytha hardly heard the words that Gomez spoke once the river came into view. She hurried toward it and knelt down, cupping her hands and dipping them and putting them to her lips over and over again until her thirst was finally quenched and her belly was so full of water that she could feel it sloshing inside. When she was finished, the creature's words finally sunk in. "Not far to what?" she asked. They'd been on the move for hours and the sun was getting low in the sky, but she knew there was no way they'd gone far enough to be that close to the settlement yet.

Raven couldn't help but to test the ropes around her wrist "Ruin what?" She asked, eyes narrowed on Laethros. She didn't bother to look back to Charles again, she couldn't see him anyway. She stood still for the moment, trying to think of a way to get out of this situation with as much information as she could get out of them.
