Lost Scout

(I was envisioning that it opened out, but if you've got something in mind that would make it cooler the other way, that's fine. :) )

"Don't think yer goin' anywhere," Laethros growled as Charles fell to his knees, bringing his hands over his head instinctively to try to protect it from a second blow. "Thought you might get cold feet," the old man sneered, giving a kick to the younger man's back side, trying to force him through the doorway so that he could lock all three of them inside. The door started to screech loudly on it's hinges as Laethros began pushing it closed.
(Nope, just making sure)
Anna heard the door starting to close and moved forward, running into it to stop it. "Gytha, go, now" She said, hoping the other woman would go while she distracted Leathros.

The sky was beginning to lighten as Jasper and Ezra rode their tired mounts back in to the village. Not even considering that Ezra might want to stop at his own house first to speak to his wife about his daughter, Jasper turned Duke straight for Lord Ragnar's residence. Still worried that the lord might doubt their story, the young man dismounted and looked nervously at Ezra. "Ready?"

Ezra followed Jasper quickly, abeam his right side. He couldn't help but cast a glance towards their humble grass home, but knew it was more time critical to inform Ragnar of the grave news before he met with Emma. The gold medallion which Aelfric had given them felt heavy in his pocket and he pulled it out as they dismounted. "As ready as I'll ever be," he sounded as unsure as Jasper. "But wait, before we go in, lets make some kind of a game plan... we need to sound convincing so try and keep it factual. I am the eldest so I'll start the talking. If Ragnar starts asking questions, be honest and straight forward... we don't need them trying to pick holes in our story. We have nothing to hide-- sound okay?"

Mulush grunted in aggravation at the question, as he had spent most of the night trying to control the flames that the humans had made. "TWO PUNY HUMANS!" he spat. "All slaves gone! Gomez... one in cookhouse. You question it? Vorgak tracking the other and the slaves"

"Gone?" Gomez repeated dumbly, like he hadn't heard Mulush correctly. "How can they be gone, I just told Laethros that we were nearly ready to launch, he's expecting us any day now at the cave! The longer this takes, the more likely Aberdeen will be expecting us. We are losing seconds, precious seconds! And the wall isn't finished!" He buried his face in his hands, grumbling with frustration and impatience.

"What's in the cookhouse?" He looked up suddenly, realizing that he hadn't even heard the end of Mulush's statement. "Who?"

Barash watched Gomez and Mulash quietly from inside the hut. He glanced to the man in the cell and grinned, showing his teeth "Humie answer questions now." He said

Gytha hurried toward the doorway. In the dark, her hands brushed against Laethros as she pushed through the doorway before he could push it closed. "You ain't going anywhere", he bellowed angrily, letting go of the door and thrusting his dagger in Gytha's direction. The scout yelped in surprise as the blade cut into her arm, not deep, but enough to convince her that Laethros would not hesitate to kill.

Blindly, she swung her rod in his general direction, feeling the blow connect, but not able to know how effective it had been. "He's in front of me!" she said, doing her best to give Anna a general idea of both their locations.

"Don't know. Human man," Mulush shrugged. "Gomez find what human knows." Previously, he had been looking forward to helping Gomez with any persuasion needed, but there was still work to do to repair the damage caused by the fire. "Barash help."

Barash watched Gomez and Mulash quietly from inside the hut. He glanced to the man in the cell and grinned, showing his teeth "Humie answer questions now." He said

After failing to remove the tight leather bonds from his wrists and succeeding only in rubbing several spots raw and sore, Aelfric had drifted off into a light sleep. As Barash began talking to him, he opened his eyes slowly and couldn't help a small groan escaping his lips. While he had slept, the blow to his face had swollen, making his left eye not want to open all the way and the muscles in his back felt seized up so that it was difficult to move. He was not feeling in a particularly cooperative mood...

Jasper furrowed his brow worriedly, but nodded. "Okay."

The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon as the two approached the door of the Ragnar's personal residence. Perhaps having heard voices outside, a women wiping wet hands on her apron opened the door as they walked toward it and Jasper recognized her as one of Ragnar's servants. He'd met her a time or two before when accompanying Master Corin. "Jasper!" the woman said, looking between the two, surprised to see anyone at such an early hour.

"We need to speak with Lord Ragnar right away, Magge," Jasper said, already forgetting Ezra's instructions to let the older man do the talking.

Assuming some kind of medical emergency, Magge nodded and hurried off.

Anna pushed the door open and dropped down into a crouch so that if he swung at her, he wouldn't hit her. Trying to determine where he was in the dark she moved a little closer then struck out with her hammock rod.

Barash grinned at Aelfric and glanced to the doorway.

Anna pushed the door open and dropped down into a crouch so that if he swung at her, he wouldn't hit her. Trying to determine where he was in the dark she moved a little closer then struck out with her hammock rod.

The rod hit Laethros in the thigh and he managed to contain a groan, cursing himself for not checking to make sure there was nothing in the room the girls could use as weapons before they had locked them up in there. He faced toward Anna's general direction and slashed his blade in a wide arc.

Charles, still holding a hand to the place where the dagger hilt had cracked him, pushed himself to his feet and took a few steps toward the commotion.

Since she was crouched down, the blade passed harmlessly over her head. She heard movement behind her and thinking that Charles might run into her in the dark, she moved to her right, away from Gytha. Once out of the way she stood long enough to call out "Go, Gytha, warn them" Then she dropped back down to a crouch and moved, circling around Leathros to get behind him.
