Lost Scout

Strider looked over the humans, waiting for an answer for a moment then stepping in. "Come on, you all need to get out of here before the orcs return. Go north, stay together." He pointed then stepped out of the cage, looking over the rest of the camp before glancing back to the people "The scouts will catch up to you, I need to check the rest of these buildings." He waited a moment longer for any of them to say something as his gaze raked over the camp again. There, movement in what appeared to be a cookhouse of sorts. He narrowed his eyes and started towards it, leaving the door to the cage wide open

There was but another moment of eerie calm before the mare reared wildly and one of the creatures revealed itself behind them.
From it issued an arrow which connected to the mare's thigh with a shhhllk sound and an eruption of pained neighs. Charles was almost thrown and nearly hacked his own arm trying to right himself and swing to face the orc. It was all he could do to turn the panicked horse and point her in a direction just left of the orc, where she then proceeded at an awkward lunge to go. Sword still drawn and arm still attached, they rushed forward.

Without hesitation, Orkhan burst from the trees with a loud, snarling growl and swung his mace towards the mare's back end. It missed wide as the horse and rider rushed forward, but he charged ahead non-the-less and followed them. He was almost certain that the rider had not identified him standing slightly ahead of his path, and therefore would be taken by surprise when attacked from all directions. Flailing his mace and continuing to snarl in an effort to frighten the horse further, he approached from behind and slightly to the right to try and avoid the horse's hooves should it kick.

With wide eyes, non of the humans moved initially at his first prompt, but began to become motivated as he gave them a direction to travel. The first one to break to silence was a tall woman named Bagira. She rose slowly to her feet and walked towards the door, followed closely by Milly's husband and more cautiously by the rest of the humans. As Strider left, they exited the cage and made a beeline for the forest.

Ghegari stepped back into the cookhouse the moment she seen Strider begin to look in her direction, and left an empty doorway for him to look at where she had been standing only seconds before. Naturally suspicious, and dangerously protective of her food, she tracked his movement by smell, sound and small glimpses through cracks in the wall.

Strider moved to the cookhouse with caution. He didn't know what was inside so he put his bow and arrows away and pulled out his sword. His eyes scanned for any further movement as he paused near the doorway. He closed his eyes to give himself a moment to adjust to the darker interior then dropped to a crouch and around the doorframe, sword up and ready to counter an attack.

Ruby struggled against her bonds once again, using the liquids that she had been covered with to try to give her wrists the slickness she needed to free them. She noticed the distraction of the cook and wanted to be free before whatever had distracted her came in. She froze when she saw her father come in the doorway, low and fast.

The end of the whip licked against Aelfric's upper arm, and though it scratched his leather armor badly, it did not break skin. Not wanting to get pushed back toward the burning tree and Barash, the human lunged toward Snaga and brought his mace down in an arc, trying to crush the arm that held the whip.

Vorgak hadn't expected the human to turn and charge toward him and had no time to knock another arrow to the string. Instead, he dove to the right, rolling out of the way of the horse and the sword, but cursed to himself as he realized that gave the human an unguarded escape route.

Snaga growled as the mace swung towards him, moving his arm back, but losing the whip as it caught on the mace. Ignoring this, he moved towards the man, trying to catch the mace and pull it from the man so he could crush him with his bare hands.

The other orc had his hands full trying to stop the fire and wasn't watching the fight anymore.

Gomez glanced back at her for a moment, looking glad that she had asked. "I hear things around the camp. Being invisible isn't always a bad thing, you know. I watched you while you worked, and listened from a distance. And at night... in the cage as well. I heard you introduce yourself to the newcomer, Danielle, last night." He fell silent again, the only sound coming from his footsteps. Unexpectedly he piped up again and added as an afterthought, "and by 'you' I don't mean you personally. If you were expecting some kind of romantic love story, forget about it. I meant the general population of slaves, your kind intrigues me."

Gytha kept a carefully blank expression at his statement about a romantic relationship, not wanting to offend him by showing she found the idea revolting. But she focused instead on the bit about Gomez knowing things about the orcs and about the prisoners. "What is it that they are after? Do they intend to attack Wedmor? Or our young settlement?"

Mulush and a small contingent of orcs that had remained in the camp came rushing toward the fire, a few of them had even thought to bring buckets of water. From the corner of his eye Aelfric saw the group coming and knew he needed to get clear quickly. But just as that thought crossed his mind, his mace became tangled with Snaga's whip and the orc managed to grab a hold of the weapon. Doubting he could simply out-muscle the monster, Aelfric immediately let go of the weapon and retreated a few feet toward the now roaring fire as he drew his sword.

Snaga had expected resistance and had to drop the club to regain his balance, opening a small path to the human. He dipped down long enough to grab the mace again and turned to Aelfric, ready to fight the sword wielding man.
