Lost Scout

Barash looked to the camp when it came back in sight. Something seemed different but he couldn't place what just yet. When they got to the cage he growled "No humie, cage broke" He stated the obvious in orc to Mulush. then looked around the camp again

Raven had stopped trying to make any special marks as they walked over the stones. She had kept her eyes down to watch her footing and didn't see the cliff coming up ahead of them. Raven's eyes widened when she saw the cliff and she pushed back, shaking her head quickly. Unable to speak past the sudden fear she turned to try to run.

Thank god, Aelfric thought, feeling some satisfaction knowing that their plan, ultimately, had worked, other than the predicament he now found himself in, of course.

Mulush felt his anger grow and he tightened his grip on Aelfric's arm, digging his fingers in painfully. "WHERE SLAVES!?" he howeled and shook the man, as if Aelfric had been single handedly responsible for both setting the fire and releasing the prisoners.

When Aelfric only stared at him, the orc punched the human in the gut, then shoved him toward Barash. "Find place to put human," he commanded, then hurried off to alert the others, who were almost finished putting out the fire.

Barsh looked down to Aelfric then around the camp, trying to think of another place to put him. After a few moment he started walking to the cookhouse and the cage there. He decided to put the man in there then guard him until Mulush got back so he wouldn't be killed for supper.

"Go ahead," Ezra invited, knowing that they would be able to shave at least a couple of hours off their trip by taking Duke instead. For a moment he debated what to do with Strider and Aelfric's horses, but decided to leave them in the ravine. He wasn't aware that Aelfric had been caught, and still believed that both men would be following them to the settlement in a few hours. He swung his leg over Panago's back and climbed the brief incline to get out of the ravine. From here they would follow the orc tracks back to the road, and then head north to the settlement as quickly as the horses could manage.

Jasper mounted quickly and turned Duke after Panago, but the colt needed no encouragement and eagerly followed Panago out of the ravine. "If we can make it back to the road before it gets dark, we should have an easy time of it," the boy said, fully planning on riding all night long if they had in order to reach the settlement before the sun came up again.

She had been so cooperative up until now that Charles had let his guard down some and was momentarily surprised as the girl tried to run past him. "Hey!" he said and made a quick dash toward her, reaching out a hand to try to catch her arm before she could escape.

Between the punch to the gut, blow to the cheek, and the nauseating smells inside the cookhouse, Aelfric felt his stomach churn as Barash pushed him into the cage. Without the support of the orc, the swordsman sunk down to his knees, then let himself rest back against the wall where he closed his eyes until the nausea passed.

"Hey..." he said, opening his eyes again after a little while and seeing Barash still standing guard over him. "got any water?" he asked, hoping only to rinse the blood from his mouth.

She felt him grab at her arm. That and the loose stones underfoot caused Raven to slip and fall. She caught herself on her hands and knees and tried to get back up to run again, determined to not go near the cliff.

Barash turned from where he stood at the door to the cook house and looked at the human. He tilted his head and glanced around the room then went to get a dipper to give him a little water. Silently he brought it over and held the dipper through the bars for him. He grinned and waited for the human to try to drink the stew water.

Charles was off balance as his hand closed around her arm, so when she fell, he fell right beside her and lost his grip on her arm. "Stop it!" he said, trying to grab her around the waist before she could get up, thinking only of wrestling her back to the ground so that he could get a firm grip on her again.

Hearing the commotion, Laethros cursed under his breath and turned, heading back up to the top of the trail. "**** fool kid, can't even keep a girl in line."
