Lost Scout

Orkhan plodded along behind Vorgak, equally as annoyed and angered that one measly human had managed to make off with all of their slaves. It was embarrassing and humiliating, what were they? A bunch of mice? Part of him felt personally responsible for losing Danielle and Ruby as he was the one to leave them with Ghegari, but it only made him more determined to retrieve them.

He caught the scent soon after Vorgak, and identified it as human as well. At this point there was no way to tell who it was, but the chances of it not being one of the escaped slaves was unlikely. Although he was sure that Vorgak had noticed it as well, Orkhan also picked up the scent of horse. "They are not on foot, we must approach with care... the darkness will slow them down."

Gomez shone the light briefly into the small cell, illuminating both Raven and Gytha as Laethros slid the bolt into place. Now that the girl was safely tucked away and out of harm's way, he could return to the orc camp...

" Buna is a very small town. " Ruby said to distract herself from the pain as Danielle covered her wounds. " It was just my parents and me, and we moved from place to place often. We were coming out here to settle down, or at least try to."

"Mmm," Danielle wiped the remaining salve off of her hands and reached for the bandages. "We lived in Oakedge since I was born but it got too crowded... land was expensive, food grew scarce... Aberdeen was an opportunity to start over, and so we did. My father started the farm over from scratch."

Strider returned to the group and looked them over before going to his horse and pulling out his extra cloak. He walked over to the women and held it out to them "Here, nights are starting to get cold." He looked around for his daughter then figured she must have gone to get the blood and sap covered clothes off.

Ruby held her hair in front of herself, waiting for Danielle to put the bandages on. "He must be a good farmer then" She said and smiled

Raven blinked at the light when the door was opened, then closed quickly after the other female was shoved in. She shook her head and worked on freeing her hands

Strider heard the two orcs and hid himself behind a tree, searching the gathering darkness for their forms. He pulled out his bow and set an arrow, then called out, using the sound of a bird in a code Ruby would know to alert them to go.

Ruby nodded and waited for Danielle to put the bandages on. She raised her head sharply when she heard the coded signal. "Forget the bandages, we're in danger." She said and put on a clean shirt. SHe quickly gathered everything and shoved it all into the saddebags. "Get everyone to the horses, don't try to mount Rosa without me, she's temperamental." She thought a moment "Take everyone on Stone and the other horse and go north, you'll hit the rode soon." She said then took her bag and ran to Rosa to gather her sword and belt it on.

(I think they are a little bit further away than that, the orcs just barely caught their scent trail)

"Are the orcs ready?" Laethros asked Gomez as they walked away from the cell. "Ain't got much time left 'fore Ragnar starts sending out the cavalry. Told a woman this morning that if her husband and daughter weren't back in 3 days, he'd send out men lookin' for 'em. They'd gone the day before, so that only gives one more day. And now with this one gone missin'..." he jerked his head back toward the room where they'd put the girls, "bound to be even more cries for him to do somethin' bout it."

Gytha stood in the center of the dark room, forcing a long breath to try to choke back the tears. The thought of not being able to wipe the snot away from her nose was as much motivation to not break down into sobs as anything else.

In the brief moments when the torch light had illuminated the room, Gytha had thought she recognized her fellow prisoner as Anna. Being a scout, Gytha had known the girl's father and had even met Raven a few times. But in such a disheveled state as she was currently in, she couldn't blame the other girl if she didn't recognize her.

"Anna?"

Raven jerked at the sound of Gytha's voice in the dark. She lost her hold on the rope and sighed then spoke "Yes. Is that you Gytha?" She asked

(BTW are her hands tied in front or back?)

(Gytha's? Behind. Raven's are in front.)

Gytha took a few tentative steps toward Raven's voice until she lightly kicked the girl's foot, then sank down onto the floor next to her. "What do those turncoats think they're doing?" she asked, still trying to come to terms with the betrayal.

"I don't know, they wouldn't talk much in front of me. But they have some kind of deal with the orcs." Raven said as she ran her fingers over the rope again. It was beginning to hurt from the odd position, but she felt that she almost had it loose. She cursed as she lost her grip again and leaned back against the wall to give her wrists a break before they got too sore. She turned her head towards Gytha "Want me to try to untie you?"
