For those of you with chicks with pasty but, keep a close eye on them, I had two that had it and cleaned their butts 4 times yesterday and still lost them. I don't know if it was something I did wrong but it really takes its toll!
I recieved my chicks last wednesday and they all seemed healthy and after a couple days I noticed that two of them were not growing like the others so I checked their butts, and sure enough, pasty butt, I should have kept a closer eye on them, maybe I caught it too late so I feel its my fault, so yesterday was not a good day. My advice, check them often!

By the way, this is my second batch of chicks, and I had everything right, water, chick feed, brooder light with plenty of room to escape the heat, no drafts, plain wood shavings. I had no problems with the first set of chicks and assumed the same with the second batch, so again, keep a close eye..

Sorry to hear about your chicks.

Sometimes you can do everything right and still end up with dead animals. I don't have any suggestions except maybe keep the sick ones away from the rest of the chicks.

I lost one to pasty butt yesterday too. I'm so sorry to hear you lost two. I keep checking them, but I think some just are too weak to handle such a set back at this fragile stage.

Maybe the problem wasn't pasty butt. Some just don't make it. One of my SLW died all the sudden, no pasty butt, no hint of what was wrong. It just happens. Sorry
