So this morning Hubby and I went to pick up my first silkie baby and a male chick!!!!! I am so excited! My kids at school named her Sophia! And here is my sweet baby...she is 9 weeks old and just as sweet as she can be!

After many posts, I decided to seperate Sophia until the other chickens could get use to her.....so I had to built a temporary coop for her! She has a little dog crate for her coop and a nice little run to herself so the other chickens can see her! As you can tell they are checkin' her out! They didn't know what to think of her...Finally she calmed down after the ride and the new home and started enjoying her temporary home!

As for my chick, he is by himself right now...So I put a feather duster and a stuffed animal in the brooder for him to cuddle up to until he gets big enough to be with my other bantams...he is doing great and loves his stuffed animal!

Here he is sleeping on the teddy bear's leg.

And after a 1 week seperation I finally got my other chicks back together in a BROODER! Our first real one! We also built that today...When I put them in, they went HAYWIRE!!

They were so excited to spread their wings and have a good time. They were so cute! After about 20 minutes of the fun and games, Hubby and I decided we definately needed a lid to go on the brooder...so that was out next project (just finished about 20 minutes ago). The babies are sooooo excited to be in their new home! (There is a perch just can't see it in the picture)

SHOO...a lot of work today. Hubby and I are exhausted but happy with happy chickens!

awww, silkie baby looks so cute, but lonely. Have you TRIED putting him in with the others? Sometimes they get along. I suggest you put him in BEFORE they get the pecking order figured out. Try asap.

The other chicks that I have are batams and I also have reds in there too. The reds are like 4 times his size and they were pecking him when I put him in there. Made me very nervous...what to do? Maybe try one bantam in there with him?

I would get 2 other bantams in with him and then, after a day or so, you can put them all back in the other brooder where he will have his two bantam friends to defend him.
