Hi, thanks for the add. I have been helping the primary chicken guy for about a year and 1/2 but I am now on my own with the flock. I have 13 1 1/2 year old Dominque hens, 10 6 month old Golden Lace Wyandotte hens. I also have 5 Golden Lace Wyandotte Roosters for a total of 28 birds. Lots of questions.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice, large flock with some hardy, dependable breeds that are good layers. You should consider thinning down the number of roosters you have, as the recommended ration of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. Too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens as they mature; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason you need any roosters is to fertilize eggs for hatching and with 23 hens, 2 roosters could handle the job nicely. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
