Thanks for the Welcomes! Michael, you pretty much nailed the reason I decided I needed to join BYC. I live in NW Wisconsin and when the cold hit this fall it hit hard so the flock has been spending way more time in the coop than what they are used to. The roosters had become a big enough problem to where I separated them from the hens entirely in an over flow coop area. It's not ideal and I worry about them staying warm enough but so far it seems to be going o.k. My original plan was to butcher all 5 and go roosterless but I am now reconsidering if I should hold two back. Come spring they will be out and about again and the roosters did a fab job keeping everyone safe this last summer and fall. Either way, at least 3 roos and 1 mean hen are going this Saturday. My dad has a heated shop about 2 minutes from my place so the first thing to figure out is how to get them to my dad's. Do I transport them live (no crates but can probably borrow a dog carrier) or do I put them in the cone here, bleed them out and then bring them over to my dads. How much time do I have between the bleeding out and the 150 degrees water?
