We live in a semi urban area and had a Bantam hen just walk up to our front door about a year ago. No idea where she came from but she is now our pet and we since have added 2 others. They free range in the backyard. They are great pets but recently the Bantam is unbelievably loud 2-3 times a day for about 4-5 min at a time--she is just walking around the backyard squawking like crazy and I can't figure it out. She also crows just like a rooster every morning (she is definitely a hen). Any ideas on what might be going on? I am afraid the neighbors are going to complain soon and I really don't want to have to give her away.

They say that sometimes when there is no roo around a hen might step up and take the roll, including crowing. Maybe this is what has happened.

Mine get loud after they've laid an egg, and one hen can set off all the other hens (and the neighbors birds as well) or something has scared them.
No idea about the crowing.
