Louisiana Duck Owners

Thanks everyone for all of the replies. I have made my list and I'm checking it twice. I've been bad to my ducks but now I'm gonna be nice. :)Time for the right feed.

Thanks!!!

I have been calling around about the duck feed that I first posted about. Well, to my surprise, I called one of our local feed stores in Lafayette, Louisiana and the guy told me that a 50lb bag of duck feed with only 14% protein was $33.00. Is that how much you all pay for duck feed?????????? This can't be right!!! Am I missing something here??????????

Sweet Lord, NO!

I pay $14.50 for 50# of duck/goose pellet and it is 20% protein. I have always fed 20% protein food to babies and adults alike and never have had any problems whatsoever.

Good grief!! $33?? Nooooo... I pay $18 for a 50 lb bag of chicken layer pellets, 15% protein. Granted, it's not formulated specifically for ducks (I can't find feed specifically for ducks here), but it works just fine at half the price you were quoted. I'd keep looking.

I have called about 7 feed stores and there are no stores that sell feed specifically for ducks. All of them are telling me about layer pellets for chickens that are used to feed ducks. There is one store that I get my chicken layer pellets and I only pay $9.00 for a 50lb bag, so I guess I will be feeding the ducks the layer pellets for chickens. I wonder why it's so hard to find feed specifically for ducks.

Forgot to mention that I did locate at TSC about an hour away and they sell a 50lb bag of Dumar Poultry 15% protein for $13.49 and a 50lb bag of Dumar Poultry 20% protein for $12.99.

Would the 20% be ok to feed the adult ducks or should I go with the 15%?

I would go with the higher protein percentage as long as they have access to greens. I can't get duck food either so I feed game bird feed.
