Actually, we HAVE been picking up pecans, lol. My BIL and his girlfriend drove down from Wisconsin and we indoctrinated them into the fine art of pecan picking-upping. Also fried catfish, chicken-and-sausage gumbo, and Fred's in Grande Mamou. A good time was had by all!
Don't know of any cur males around here right off the bat Catdaddy but I'll ask around.
Thanks on the return info on the male anyway my gyp is going out so it'll be around 6 mo. or so before I try and breed her again so I'll be looking in the meantime. I really would like to find a yellow male to cross with her as she's a dark brown brinneled cur and when I breed her to leopard (spotted curs) I end up with a lot of black pups they are beautiful (to me) but everybody wants colored dogs esp. curs they tend to think if its not a blue leopard with glass eyes then it not a Catahoula cur which is just about as far from the truth as it could get. I had found a yellow mountain cur from my sister a great squirrel dog to boot but he's a natural bob tail and I sure didn't want approx. 50% F1 that would be bobbed as some folks incl. myself perfer dogs to have tails not saying a bob is a bad thing but if you want a bobbed tail have it docked not intermixing in the breeding thing, I'll be quiet on that. Anyhoo the other yellowish/red male I found was a Rhodesian ridgeback he's a beautiful dog prolly would have made some interesting mixes but then again he weighed 88# she's 45# soaking wet I there I'd be again with curs with ridge backs and little too big for people who would want to use them for squirrel hunting, could you imagine the food bill for a hunting dog that size running around in the woods all day he eat a sack of dog food every night to get regenerated much less the wear and tear on his feet and joints. So I left her open till next time around.
Sounds like the in-laws got the creme de la creme a Royal Festival, huh? I sorta miss the pecan picking-upping thing Lord knows I did my share of it when I lived over on the Atchafalya that was my extra spending money to by chicken feed, beer and cigs with Ha!, besides I love eating them too, dang sure miss the fresh catfish and the chicken and sausage gumbo and..... anything Cajun's do.
