"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

:celebrate  Go Julie!!! How many did you end up with??

So far 13 have hatched. There were 12 when I arrived home on yesterday and eggs were still zipping. I had to take them out because it had been almost 48 hours. I know I'm not supposed to open the incubator but they had to come out of there. It took me about 45 seconds to take the chicks out and mist the remaining eggs. I woke up this morning and another chick had hatched. We'll see if any more hatch today. If not the eggs were either not fertile or I killed them when I opened up the incubator. Anyway, here are pics of them. I had another baby that hatched on yesterday as well and put it with the Maran chicks. Can anyone point out the "odd ball"? :lau My banty hen hatched Mr. Odd Ball on yesterday. :lau She is still sitting on 1 more egg. I hope she can hatch it. :fl

is it normal for the girls (6 weeks old) not to leave theit coop unless im out with them?   they haev the 10x10 area and i open up the coop at 6am and i get home around 4:30pm they will not leave the coop untill i get home and call them out

My RIRs were the same way when I first put them out. I had to go in the coop, grab them and walk them out. :smack They were scared to come out of the coop. Now, I wish they would have STAYED in the coop. They are a NIGHTMARE to deal with.

will this include our chickens? http://www.katc.com/news/opelousas-eyeing-restrictions-for-livestock-owners/#!prettyPhoto/0/    the sad thing is i Know where the city is coming from i would comment more but i would prolly get banned from teh BYC site and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be knocking at my door due to people not knowing what it takes to raise livestock!

Sounds like it WILL include chickens "IN" the city limits. Sounds like owners of horses have been doing a poor job in being responsible for their horses, now everyone has to suffer. :smack

I'm glad I live OUT of the city limits.

The council is proposing a new ordinance that would restrict ownership of all livestock in city limits after a number of complaints about horses roaming the streets.

I wonder if they will include barking dogs. That's a nuisance as well. :smack

Hi everybody, I just wanted to share some pictures from my day I picked a few black berries, there were only a few ripe ones, but soon I will be swimming in them lol The bush In the world of chicken people & duck people, I have found that I am a chicken person. The ducks don't like me very much, but here they are in their new run I built them. Now for my chickens. I love them & they love me lol. Here is one of my favorite hens, she is a Barred Holland This is my Dark Brahama pair Rooster Cogburn This is Big Mamma, a Buff Orpington hen. She is sitting on 12 blue laced red Wyandottes since April 1st These are the chicks from her first hatch, they are 2 months old. I guess it's the "hybrid vigor", but these little guys grew so fast, the only way to tell the barred chicks from the barred Hollands is because the chicks are crossed with the Brahama they have feathered shanks. But they are close in size And here they are digging holes

Ugh. I understand but that sucks so bad! I'm glad I live outside city limits (actually Lafayette Parish, but nearly St. Landry).
