"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ca c'est bétaille, lol one of my Production Red hens when she was young. Stank eye huh?

I bought 4 gorgeous Silkie chicks from Gracie this evening. The kids and I were so very excited to pick them up and take them home. I set them up under the heat lamp and carefully closed the door to the bathroom to keep curious little ones out. I gathered up the water and feeder dispensers and when I came back about 5 minutes later, all was quiet. They all died!

I must have put the heat lamp too close and should have moved them to the larger brooder first. I am so sad. Gracie, I am SO SORRY I killed your precious little bitties.

They were so beautiful.

My honey buried the Silkie babies with Cookie. I dread tomorrow morning when my children wake up and run to my bedside to ask to see the new chicks (which they do every morning when we have chicks in the house).

Oh no... I'm so sorry! I overheated some one time by using a light with a styrofoam ice chest. You learn from experience. The learning process is sometimes very emotionally painful. My heart goes out to you and your family.

It's comforting to know I am not the only one who has made this mistake. So shocking to walk in and see the poor things dead. It happened so quickly, but I can't help but feel terrible about being the cause of their suffering and death. They were so beautiful! Gracie sure does have quality chicks.

Took a ride to abbeville to check out a fairly new feed store called thibodeaux town and country. They are the only place around that has the pox vaccine in stock. Really cool place, if your in the area check it out.
You visited my hometown! Abbeville is a nice city with lots of history.

The Thibodeaux's have a very nice feed store. I'm glad to know that they carry the pox vaccine.

Oh yes; I also drowned half of my hatch one time by some freak accident. I put food and water for the chicks and had layed paper towels on the bottom of their container to catch their mess. The chicks somehow through running around and/or scratching at the paper towel pushed the corner of the paper towel into their water dish. In no time at all the paper towel absorbed all of the water from the drinker and flooded the chicks container. Half of them had already drowned by the time someone noticed what they had done. If we had left the house that day they would have all drowned. Crazy things happen!
