Co-parenting at it's best.

I found this surprise on Saturday morning as I was leaving out to run errands. I had a muscocy hen and turkey hen sharing a nest of DUCK EGGS!!!!!!!! Poor turkey doesn't even know they are not poults. She was a proud mama strutting and leading her babies back to the chicken yard along with the muscovy mama. :th

12 babies :th WHY ME ! :barnie

NO MORE SCOVIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :barnie

Well Terri, no pea eggs hatched this weekend, so that means no eggs were fertile. So, you were definitely right about the tails dropping = no fertile eggs. So, I will be cleaning the incubator and storing it until next year. THANK GOODNESS!!! I don't want to see any more baby anything. I'M DONE !!!!!!!!!!!! :p

This is my first hurricane with my chickens. Should I lock them in their coop when the winds kick up??

I have no clue what to do!! HA!
I've never locked mine up - they have always had enough sense to go into the coop & stay there on their own.

On the other hand, the worst part is supposed to come through later tonight here - and they will be locked up at that time because I lock them up at sundown every night.

But I will open the coop in the morning in case they want to act like ducks...I know they won't - mine think they are made of sugar & will melt - they won't stick a toe outside their coop if it's raining.

Good luck to everybody & stay safe! Since we typically lose power if a cloud so much as passes in front of the sun, I probably won't be on the next few days. I estimate the power will go out here around 7 pm tonight, since I was planning on roasting a chicken for supper...maybe I'll fry it instead...

My chickens are hilarious and run around in the rain all the time. They look so pitiful when they are drenched, but they obviously don't mind.

I guess I'll just play it by ear tomorrow when I see how bad things get.
