Goodness ya'll have been busy! congratulations on all the new babies & welcome all the new members! Been busy putting up birdhouses here - because you can never have enough birds, right?! These are my Dad's newest designs & color patterns. He loves to make birdhouses of all shapes & sizes & colors. Dad's 80 now & woodworking is his hobby - he also builds other things. The bluebirds are already moving in so they like them, too!

Those are too cute!! Terri, does your Dad sell the birdhouses? If so, I would love to buy a couple from him. Just let me know.

Welcome back, KuntryGirl, we missed you!

Thank you. And I missed everyone. Although I was on vacation, it WAS NOT a vacation. I am so tired from working in that yard from sun up to sun down. We got A LOT of work done. I will post pics of the new chicken house, the areas where we spread the 16 tons of sand and whatever else we did. I'm so glad to NOT be on vacation. Vacation for all of us country/animal folk is not the same as "other" people. :/

Evening everyone!  Long day today.  Drove into Texas to visit my brother.  He has colon cancer and isn't doing well.  He's been fighting for just over a year and is at a low point.  It was good for him to see my kids today.

I let my 16 year old daughter drive the entire day and think I managed the trip only seeing my life flash before my eyes 3 or 4 times.  Not bad for her first drive that far away from home.  She whined all day about feeling guilty leaving the duckling at home!  

Love the pics of babies I missed on the thread today.  Beautiful!

Has anyone gotten "sample eggs" yet this year? You know the ones hens lay when they first start to lay, about the size of a marble with no yolks? I got the first one for this year in a nest today and am wondering what causes it?:/

I have been getting those for the last 2 weeks.

BTW, at least 7 of my 13 turkey hens are laying, cuz I got 7 eggs today!

Welcome to all the newcomers!

I noticed there are a few around the Baton Rouge area. While most are not in an urban area, we should put a group together and call it the Baton Rouge Area Urban Chicken Keepers (BRAUCK). This way I can go around saying, "I'm a member of BRAUCK, you know, like the sound a chicken makes.... braaaaaauuck, brauck, brauck, brauck, braaaaaaauuuuuuck, brauck, brauck."

I've had way too much sugar tonight.
