awesome!! Congrats!Bear is home!!! We don't know where he was, but after an extensive search, we took a short break and was sitting on the sofa, having a cup of coffee and planning our next move, when Hubby heard crying on the porch. I can't hear very well any more, and he was afraid to let me open the door to find a badly hurt or dying dog, that I helped his mother birth, when she was having trouble getting him born,. so he said nothing, excused himself and went outside to investigate. A minute later, here comes Bear, with his head very low and hurried to his bed, without saying anything, or greeting anyone, not even his sister. He knew he had done wrong and went to give himself a time out in his bed. Of course, I went immediately to see if he was injured. He was fine, but won't utter a word as to where he went!He stayed in bed a long while, in dog time, and then came into the kitchen, saw I was still upset and went back to bed. He will not have doggie door privileges for the rest of the day! I told him if it ever happens again, he will have his collar taken away for a day! He is very proud of his dog collar. I think he feels like it is his membership to our family. When he gets his bath, we take his collar off , while he is in the tub and if it doesn't go back on as soon as he gets out he gets up[set, looks for it and will bring it to us with a whimper, until it goes back on! Well, just wanted to let everyone know he is safely back home again.

Morning La-yers! the sun is out! Life is good! All the new chicks & goslings are so cute!
My feral barn cat that somebody dropped off here had kittens up in the hay loft of our old barn. GREAT timing. The storm that destroyed our greenhouse also took out part of the barn roof and side, so we were planning to tear it down and put up a storage building in it's place, now we have to wait until the kittens are old enough to catch & move. I tried to tame her down enough to trap her & get her spayed but she is as wild as a March hare & I sort of ran out of time. I can almost touch the orange cat (her kitten, now 1/2 grown) but she won't do anything but hiss & spit & run when she sees us. I've never had one so wild.
OK off to do chores - have a good one everybody!![]()
I would not hesitate we do it here and have had no problems long as it is not moldy or sour.Have a question, A friend gave me some oatmeal & grits about a month out dated for human consumption would it be okay to cook it & feed it to my chickens?

A person after my heart. I LOVE the way you have included EVERY single detail about this process. I was so happy when I read your post, I almost cried tears of joy.
Thanks SO much for posting this! I just copied & saved the whole thing.
Definitely giving this a try!
Mumsy deserves all the credit. I'm just like y'all - need to see everything and understand it in detail - how much, when, why. So glad it was as helpful for you as it was for me!!X2. I don't have much of a flock, but recently bought stuff for worms, etc. (very expensive) but my real concern was about the "can't eat the eggs" warning. This looks like a real benefit to the chickens for just about everything but pox. I first heard about it from Brandy this weekend (Thanks Brandy for getting my brain going on this). Sadly, I need a 1-2-3 to do something, and, even better, a foto with everything measured for me. LOL I'm going to give it a try, too.![]()
Thanks so much for the detailed recipe and instructions!!!!For everyone who wanted the Grape Wine Recipe, here it is (in detail). I had to take pics of the simple set up so that you can see how we make our wine. If anyone is confused about the steps, please let me know. I tried to make it as clear as possible but then again, I did have a glass of wine last night.![]()
Disclaimer: We are not responsible for any giggles, outbursts of laughter, frequent smiles, sleeping in the chicken house or coop or fancy foot work on the dance floor that may be caused from drinking this concoction. Please drink this mixture in moderation but then why would you want to do that when you are safely in the confinements of your home or sitting in the chicken yard enjoying our Louisiana weather.
Holy cow that's a lot of buckets. Once you get all the buckets of food and wine going you'll need to be careful not get your fermentation mixed up with your distillation!
Chickenbelle, I couldn't agree more. This group has been a real source of information and comfort for me as I break into the world of chickens.I am NOT an extremely social person. When I choose friends--I keep those chosen few for life. they have always been there for good times and bad.
However, on this thread I have found people who will not only tolerate my love of chickens, but encourage it. I don't even have to get out of my pajamas. You don't judge me when I have chicken poop on my clothing. On this thread I can get advice on poultry needs, share excitement of new chicks, learn new ideas for improving our homestead--like fermenting or making my own ACV. You have even now not only taught me, but showed me in pictures how to make my own wine by the 5 gallon bucket full. You are all now my new BFFs. I have found a second home.
I hope all of you will begin your 5 gallon buckets of fruity goodness soon--then we can toast one another and our birds together. We can have a sing along of "Lean on Me" while we are toasting. Goodness knows that if I read the recipe correctly, the 5 gallons has to be finished in 30 days---I'm gonna need somebody to leeeeaaaaannnn onnnn!!!
