"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

FYI: I will try this this weekend. I have noticed a few skeeters flying around.

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP:
Items needed:
1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
1 2-liter bottle

HOW:
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.)

Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.
I remember seeing that - thanks for posting it, because I looked for it again & couldn't find it.
I'm going to try it also.

Looks like more t-storms moving in.

Anyone interested in a trio of Sicilian Buttercups? At 32 breeds/varieties--plus picking up 2 more next weekend...I have to start picking who I really like and want to keep and who needs to be sold.

My trio is...oh, around 9 weeks. I can double check at home. They are listed on the endangered list.

I may also part with some pairs of Horstman Silver Penciled Rocks as soon as I am sure of gender on those buddies.

*sigh* It is hard to decide. There are many breeds I love because of coloring and personality. Then there are those with awesome egg colors. Then there are those that will do well showing. It is hard for me to say who I enjoy and who I don't. If I could get my breeds down to 20 or so, I'd be satisfied. I made a list for the family of birds and noted the price we could get for eggs and for chicks. This weekend they are all going to have to vote to see who may be leaving. It's just hard to choose when I've invested so much money into getting birds from good breeders.

Talking of Baby Birds: I was sitting in my bedroom and noticed a dove sitting on a nest in the GUTTER! I watched her be a good mommy for a couple of days, but I knew that that gutter floods and overflows when it rains and that the nest and eggs would be washing away. When the forecast came of heavy rains and she was still sitting, I decided to take action. There is a covered bird feeder only a couple of feet from the nest, so I put two parallel bricks into the feeder to simulate the width and confinement of the gutter and put on garden gloves and carefully moved the nest (2 eggs) from the gutter to the feeder. Of course, the mother flew away, but I hoped she would come back. She did, but it was days later and too late. I was just wondering if I could have done anything else to save the birds?

Here is a foto of the gutter and feeder, sorry it is upsidedown, I don't know why, when I import the foto it is upsidedown.

I love the hanging trees, I'm going to have to try that!

Just learn to turn your phone upside down and that will fix your problem!

Perhaps she is just felling a little sluggish like we get from time to time. I would continue to offer yogurt and make sure she has ACV in her water. Continue to monitor her for any changes.
Thank you, Julie, Brandy, Jeff and everyone. My Mom is in the hospital, so I didn't get home until 7:00. Jazzmine was eating some crumble when I got home and looked normal, except for her tail, except one thing I noticed is that in this evening her crop was empty and soft. Usually their crops are full at night, the other two had normal full crops. I checked each one's vent, mainly because I don't know what a vent should look like, and hers looked like the others and there was nothing coming out of it. Also, no green droppings. Only 2 eggs today, so I still don't know if she has laid one.

I prayed for her today. I really hope it's what you said, Julie. I have ACV and yogurt, so I'll be sure she gets it. Thanks Gerilyn, I wouldn't have known not to put ACV in the metal waterer, but I have plenty of plastic ones.

Love to you all. This has been so stressful on top of worrying about Mom, but happily Mom is going to be fine, so I can focus on Jazzmine now.

About cats: My cat would bring me many animal gifts. I have a large garden tub that the animals couldn't get out of: mice, snakes, lizards, squirrels, one fur creature I couldn't identify, and, of course, many birds. Sometimes the birds would be perched on the window inside my bathroom in the morning. We nicknamed the tub Death Valley (after LSU Stadium) because not all creatures were allowed by my cat to live. I have a doggy door, so he would go hunting at night and release in the tub during the night. Fortunately, he is about 9 years old now and mostly sleeps on the patio rather than collect animals for my tub.

Anyone close to Baton Rouge going to the Jennings show ?

Also does anyone know of a decent motel in that area that wouldnt lose thier mind over a few birds lol

Just a really quick post to let u all know today is a very sad day. I went out to feed to ducks this morning, and found 8 dead. If the two that are left, one is hurt badly. I patched her up best I could. Maybe she will make it. I have been hiding in the bedroom and bathroom so that my 2 1/2 year old wont see me. His Nana just came to take him to school. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day right now.......
Oh no TruBlu! I'm so, so sorry. Can't imagine how you must have felt when you went out that morning.
