Ok...just called the
TSC to see if I could get a knowledgeable employee or manager. First question was....we bought chicks from you last weekend. What breed were the yellow ones that were in the bin marked Red Pullets? answer "pullets".
Second question...what hatchery do you order from? she put me on hold.... Answer...manager doesnt know, they just mail them to us.
Third question...I need to know if they are Cornish and will need to be killed in a couple of months because they cant stand up...or if they are Leghorns and will be longtime pets for my children?
Answer-maam, they are Pullets.
Argggghhh!!!
So, I politely informed her that pullet just meant female...it wasnt a breed...she was alarmed at this and offered her apologies. It isnt like a Quarter horse or an Appaloosa...it is like a mare...which can mean any breed! I just think if they are selling birds this close to Easter with a bunch of uninformed mommas buying them for Easter Baskets, they should know a little more. Someone posted a "sample
TSC employee memo" that should be sent out prior to chick buying season that listed the basics so the employees can help folks better. It was good for a laugh for folks like me who have dealt with similar scenarios. There are several threads on here about lack of knowledge of
TSC employees nation wide. Too bad.
I have no intention of eating my birds....and dont want to keep them if that is their ultimate purpose.
