Yes; Barred Babies I am excited! I've waited six months for them to lay, and have been wishful thinking for almost two years.

Joe, You are a hatchaholic!

Just in case you needed confirmation.

So am I!

I was wondering about the splits and coronations. So..., you can't tell them apart as chicks? I guess when I want to hatch only pure coronations I'll have to separate my split hen.

Now that I have these pullet eggs in the bator, what's the general concensus on chicks from pullet eggs? I've always heard that chicks hatched out of pullet eggs grow up to be small chickens.

Any opinions?

I admit it.. yes.. I am a hatchaholic.. so bad infact that I got a new table for my room that can hold ALL my bators at the same time!!!! YEAH!!!!

Yes.. no way to tell until after they feather out.. BLAH!!!

Pullet eggs are eggs.. the chicks will be small, but they will grow to the same size bird.. think of it as a very small 95 pound 5'2 lady giving birth to a 6 pound baby who grows to be 6'3..

They will be smaller in the start, but will grow just fine.

I emailed Dr. Barrington about the NPIP information needed to provide to people who want to purchase any of your eggs or animals and this is a copy of the email that he sent to me.

Julie, if you are selling chicks, eggs or poults out of state, you need to have a USDA form 9-3 filled out which specifies the level of NPIP participation you are in. that form is sent to the state that is receiving your product, so that they can know what and where things are moving into the state. We usually have the vmo of tech that did your test fill a few of those out for you and show you how to do it properly. For trading within the State, a copy of your 9-2 test is adequate. Thanks for signing up.

-- Grisham Marans-- did you get them from Steven Givens at LSU? I wanted some of his so bad last year but got outbid on eggs every time. They are VERY nice birds! My Welsummers are Grisham lines & lay eggs almost as dark as Marans.

Thanks for the info on the NPIP certificate Julie! I knew there was such a thing since I've gotten copies along w/shipped eggs, but I had forgotten to ask where to get them from. Have you gotten your number yet? Danny told me to call him if I didn't see anything in the mail after a couple of weeks.

On the cool side this morning-- have my window at work wide open to enjoy it -- wish we could bottle this nice weather up for mid-summer!

I was moving the chicklets from their brooder, which is up off the ground, to the "playpen" - a portable pen with a cover I set up for them when the weather's nice - and I straightened up & hit my head on the hummingbird feeder I had just put up - felt & looked like somebody poured a cup of syrup on my head! Took several rinses to get it all out of my hair & I swear it still feels a bit sticky on the back. Just call me Klutz!

You're welcome. I sold one of my Bourbon Red Tom Turkeys to one of my regular customers that had been on my waiting list for a year. She met me at work this morning and picked up my big ole' boy and I wanted to make sure that I gave her the necessary documents. I located the form that Dr. Barrington mentioned and made a copy and gave it to her. I have since made several copies and have placed them in the glove compartment in my vehicle in the event I have to transport eggs or an animal somewhere and I forget my paperwork at home. It will be right there for me.

And yes, I have received my number. I was so happy. You should be getting yours very soon.

Terrilachicks, since my geese are laying, I've been shipping eggs out of state regularly. I call or email my assigned state vet and he comes out to my home to sign the 9-3 form. We've got a system developed that if I'm not around I simply leave the forms all filled out in a plastic container in front of my front door for him to sign. Now, I email him with about a 3 day notice for him to drop by. I'm waiting for him to sign off on two forms now.

My only concern now is that I may get in trouble for not being AI certified since some states require that. That will be my next step in certification.

It's funny but I've gotten shipments of chicks and eggs this spring that the buyers claim to be NPIP certified but I'm not getting the 9-3 form with my order. It kinda concerns me because I see people claiming to have "show birds" for McMurray Hatchery? Really? I can't help but wonder if some people are claiming to be NPIP certified and really aren't. Or, are they simply not following the rules in filling out the proper forms.
