"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

This was shared by JoyfulPromise on another thread:

For those who were asking about a way to have easy-peel hard-boiled fresh eggs, what works for us is poking a small hole with a push pin through the fat end of the egg into the air cell before boiling.  This works every time and gives you PERFECTLY smooth peeled eggs, even if they were taken out of the coop less than an hour ago!

Here is a link to the article explaining the process - with nice clear pictures too! :)   The Perfect Hard-boiled Egg

I know that a lot of people have a hard time peeling fresh eggs. My trick is that I put water in my pot and I add salt and I let it boil. Then I lower the eggs into the pre-salted water. After the eggs have boiled, I pour out the hot water and run cold water over them and let them sit in the pot for about 5 minutes and then I peel them. I get a perfect peel each and every time. :D

Thanks, Kuntrygirl. I looked them up. I think they will be fine but somewhere I saw that it was the cheaper alternative. On line a 50# bag consistently was $12.99. I paid $25.00. Whew. I didn't know whether it was some kind of super food or the store over charges. Well, apparently it's the latter. The store was just stArting to carry chicken feed and was near my house. I'm much better off driving my little Prius further. I can get top brands for less than that. Oh, well.

$25? Never go there again. Even for a rare time when I buy 50# they usually range from $13-16. That's top price at TSC, my feed mill is cheaper.

Welcome new La-yers!! I still newish myself and EVERYONE here has been so helpful!!! (As long as they are properly medicated and have a glass of wine in their hand). Please let me be the first to invite you to the 1st annual Catdaddyfro guinea hunt.

This is where we watch Jeff (Catdaddyfro) attempt to catch keets (see I learned something here!!! I also learned I want guineas!!) and get them away from one very angry mama guinea. We are looking forward to this event. It might be even more fun harassing Jeff about it!

Anyone near lake Charles area want a male great Pyrenees? She can meet in bueax bridge also...
I can't get to him. He's 10 months old, great shape...go pick him up! He wants to be your new buddy!

Tried finding owner, no luck :( he won't last 3 days at a shelter.

Please don't bring him to a kill shelter. I'd take him but I already have 3. I would think there would be a no kill somewhere in Lake Charles . The other thing you could try is there are shelters specific to almost every breed. They probably aren't local but most will arrange travel. It's worth a try.
