X2 on the blue egg. So exciting. Haven't gotten mine yet. Hope they lay their first ones in the nesting boxes. Although I did start looking around just in case.

Yes congrats to Angelicisi! And Prim that reminds me that one of my EE laid their first egg on the floor of the coop. I'm glad I went around the back or I wouldn't have seen it. It was behind their water. Hope you get yours soon.

here's my chicks -- the black one is the Marans one that hatched here, the two chipmunky ones are the ones Jim went & bought to keep our little Marans company - her "pet chicks" lol. I don't care; they are all three cuter than cute & will be a good addition to our flock! As long as our little "hatchee" is happy, that's all that matters!

We're on clay, too. Mulch, mulch, mulch! Compost like crazy. The more organic matter you can put into your soil, the more you'll break up the clay. Everything I clean out of my coop goes into the mulch pile for the garden. We chop up the leaves w/the lawnmower & that goes in also.

I agree with Terri. If your talking fruit trees you need to plant in fall. Pam

So yesterday I go to work.
Hubby made a plucker, set everything he'd need up to process a chicken. His 1st. He even set up a cam and recorded it so I could see it. We had planned in there near future to process a bird but I had no idea he was making a plucker and like *ready* lol.
Yesterday Before I went to work I emptied left over spaghetti pots into the chicken trough. They LOVED it. Gobbled it up. I didn't tell the hubby, didn't think it'd matter. So he's prepped, has video rolling and video available to reference! Does great, til the crop throws up spaghetti when he examined it! Whoops! How to tramatize your husband on his 1st chicken (hes a rabbit man) - FEED them leftovers that resemble the grossest stuff before slaughter lol. *Now* he knows 2 things he didn't - don't clean a freshly fed bird and tell your wife before hand O.O lol

He made one from some bungees a cap and a bolt. Uses his uber CORDLESS drill and a 55 gallon drum we had the drum and drill. Everywhere we researched said cordless won't do it. Whoa, his drill wanted to do a dozen chickens! So the right cordless works but a corded one will prevent battery switches and wear and tear. But it works lol! $20 total. Tell Jim, its a lot less difficult than he thought but a tad bit tedious getting the bungees threaded. Drill small hole in cap that touch each other until its the width of the strap, instead of trying to jig saw anything out.

I just found the motherload for sales at walmart. I priced matched Albertson's sales in alex and printed high value coupons directly on walmart's website! I have a lot of toothpaste to get rid of again... Walmart had colgate for $0.50 in the clearence isle and coupons on their website for $0.75 off one! Albertson's is always putting yogurt 4 packs 5.30oz each on sale for $0.88 because they order too much and there is almost always a good coupon out there as they are name brands. I also use http://www.mygrocerydeals.com/ for deals and because they have the date and store on them Walmart accepts them. I just click on what I want to add it to the grocery list then print the grocery list so I don't waste paper. The only problem with this is that the savings are soo big that I have to have a CSM come over to turn a key and type in a code. Now when I hit a regester I usually have a CSM waiting for me to finish...they know me too well. This year I am going to brave Black Friday (something I always try to avoid) for the meat sales. Walmart, Brookshire Brother's, and Market Basket are supposed to have huge meat sales this year.
