"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Lots of processing, this time of year and you know, we have to make Hay while the sun shines! Plucked a turkey today and plan to process 7 rabbits tomorrow, if it isn't raining, tomorrow! Then they go into the freezer on Wednesday and if the weather permits, will process one of those big boy 18 month toms, you saw, while Hubby has his first apt with his new doctor. Since I will be doing it alone, I'll skin him except for the breast, I'll pluck and freeze that for a big roasted turkey breast, but debone the rest for smoked turkey sausages and ground turkey. I chill everything(except ground meat) for 3 days in a 72 quart ice chest on the front porch. In good weather, every 3 days, I will be taking out and freezing the contents and after a good cleaning, process something else to go in, hopefully till everything is processed and frozen, that's not being wintered over. I can't process the big toms and pluck them without help, or risk getting burned with the hot water dunking they need, by myself, so I have to do those when hubby's around to help. They weigh 40+ pounds and I can't hold those with stretched out arms by myself any more without using the tractor and something broke on it today!:barnie  Hubby will be pretty busy with the rabbit provillion, so I will be doing most all the plucking, unless someone want's learn to slaughter and process a turkey! LOL

How is the chicken condo roof coming?
BTW, Coco and powder have been together for about 4 weeks and she is very fat, so I have her by herself in a cage with a nest box and plenty straw, just in case? The last mixed mini doe was mated with Powder last week, so if Coco doesn't download by the time Vanilla, is due, I will switch her and Coco and try to mate Coco again. She is huge, but she eats like a pig, not a rabbit, so she may have trouble conceiving due to her extra weight? They have been getting some feet on the grass time, on really nice days and love it. Bear lays about 3 feet away and guards them, he sure loves the rabbits! How is Gin Gin and Lela ?

There have been some really easy to make pluckers on the thread, and really cheap that I know George could make for you if you don't have a plucker.

Coco will produce beautiful babies, I still think GinGin is the most beautiful bunny in the world. Lela and Gin are so sweet and tame and have always been super healthy with beautiful coats. They will get play yard time today while I clean their hutch and let it dry out. I put the flaps on the hutch down for winter and fill their little wooden houses with fresh hay once a week when I clean the hutch. That's where they sleep when it's cold. I love them so much. Hello to George. PS I hope his new doctor works out well. PPS. Chicken shelter coming along. I have to finish the shingles, add some trim and paint all the trim and I'll been ready to move them in. I'll still have to use the tarps on the sides in winter and take them off in summer. I may hang them from hooks like a shower curtain.

My husband wants to add turkey to our list. We both would like to learn to process them! Lol

If there is ANY hint of a squat/bend of knee or shadow of my lap she's in it trying to cuddle and woo me. Weird chicken- but I love her lol her daughter is the splash in the last pic

the fugly EE next to her (i love her-but whew her molt kicked her butt ) is the Boss hen after awhile of being bottom hen and relishing every moment lol, affectionately named Blue because we thought she'd lay us blue eggs lol doh . 6 jumbo (white/grey-ish) eggs a week. Every week, all seasons...best layer I've had so we kept her when we learned the difference between EEs and AMs and went on the hunt for wheatans

Did anyone else know blue jays can perfectly mimic the cry of a hawk. A few days ago I was starting to turn the girls out when I heard an extremely close hawk cry and was about to start shoving chicken butts back in while I looked for the source to hear it again and see a d*** blue jay sitting about 10 feet away smugly. Little troll. Then it cawed like a crow and flew off.

I actually went on YouTube to listen to hawk sounds bec I didn't know. The other day I was in the yard and I heard the sound and my girls did a great job of scurrieing under the hutch and bench. That made me happy bec they don't have a roo and I didn't know if they knew what to do. Before I knew about hawks I couldn't figure out what was spooking them. Lol

Hahaha @ plant 5 for 1

I got 2 cherry trees, a pineapple guava & a sweet olive last year for giving into the the chainsaw begging for the southern magnolia by our pool...
Was a win win tho because its my job to skim said pool- I didn't realize the southern mags shed 4 x's a year- right into the pool thought it was wind lol now my shoulders and abs get a rest skimming the 48,000 gallon beast & we have fruit & pretty scents.
Plus he got to climb a 40foot tree with a chainsaw attached to his hip. So scary! And hot lol

That's exactly why he wants to get rid of it. 48000 gallon wow that's big. That used to be my job before wreck I liked cleaning the pool. Mine is only 14000 gallon. I can't do it now because of neck/ back issues. We bought one of those automatic cleaners they work really good.
I think he wants it gone bad enough to get a few fruit trees. Do you have bing cherry? If so how are they producing here?
