During a hard molt which this is what it sounds to me like you hen is going thru. They can/will become standoffish and solemn. It takes a lot of their energy/protein to grow all those feathers back at one time and they are sore too so when you touch/hold them it hurts. So yeah they will become reclusive/secluded and almost lethargic acting and moody and PMS ing and hormonal all that stuff LOL Some molt in a little slower and don't loose all their feathers at once some look like you poisoned them or plucked them and they usually wait till the dead of winter to do so.LOLThanks. She is really sad and won't let me touch her. She really passive with the other chickens but they aren't picking on her. I cut up some turkey and made sure she ate it to give her more protein. She would just let the others have it so I isolated her and she ate it fine.

Still have about 40 fluffy butts, oh yeah, INSIDE the house!!! I have never had more than 10 or so at a time, WHAT A CHORE!! They are so stinking cute, but will be glad when they can be moved to the outside brooder.
I had two of my Wellies go through hard molts like that & honestly, I wanted to knit them little sweaters or something – they looked so moth-eaten and pathetic! But they did grow new feathers eventually!Thank you so much Jeff. You can't imagine how much that means to me and the responses of others. It really is a hard molt. Poor little chicken. She is half naked. At least I now know it does happen and she'll be okay. She still chooses to huddle with the babies to sleep and they seem kind to her. If one of the others wanted to be bitchy, they could really hurt her, but they don't. I wonder if they know their time will come?? Bec this bunch will normally pick on weakness.
Over my ovation limit?! Whaaaa? I need more Lol but there's so much more I need to ovate*!(*not a word- hmmmm should be)
