"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

My bantam is not laying much now, but wants to set on all the other girls' eggs. She's been in the box for a week now, so I decided today to give her a few. Only one was laid when I left for work today and I put it under her. It was a little cool but I know it had been laid within the last hour. Came back home during lunch and found that she had moved to another box to sit on a couple other eggs that were laid, and there were a couple others that were exposed. Temps were low 40's this morning and low 50s at lunch. I put the eggs under the bantam, but now I am wondering if they will be viable after being out for a couple hours at most in upper 40s temps. None were really cold when I moved them, but they weren't warm either....What do you guys think?

They should be fine. I pulled eggs out of the fridge to put under my broody the first time. The eggs were in the fridge for a week before I put them under her. I just let them come to room temp before I gave them to her and all hatched. You want to either isolate her or mark the eggs because a true broody will steal eggs to put under and others will lay on top of her.

If I had one more "toy" to add on to my "collection", I will need another "Therapist". But that wouldn't be so bad having 2 people to talk to.

I think I am gonna like this group! HAHAHA

WOW, from the fridge to hatching! That's amazing. THanks for the info...my girls laid 9 eggs today so I put them all under my bantam and we'll see how it goes. I did mark them because last time she was broody, the other hens kept laying in her box so I had to mark the ones she started with or she woulda been sitting on a pyramid of eggs!!! Should be an interesting brood if they hatch, roo is a pretty Black Australorp and hens are RIR, BR, Americauna, Lt Brahma, Welsummer, and Wyandottes.

To be fair I didn't know she could be broody that young. I wanted to hatch some of her eggs down the line because she and my rooster are my favorite out of the whole bunch. She started laying (first time), laid me 4 eggs, then went broody. She shares head hen duties with one other and I took eggs out of the fridge from both of them and gave them to her. 7/7 hatch and she was a great mom. She is half the size of my silkie mix rooster so I couldn't give her any more to sit on...not for a lack of trying on her part.

hee hee hee. :lau

Yea, my parents knew that there was NO hope for me at an early age. :gig
