"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

For years I would watch chickens when I could. Wistfully wish I could have chicken. Then in 2012 I found out I now could have chickens starting opinion 2010.

This is my first experience with Broody Pullet and chicks. I have learned that a bata # 11 in a flock of 12 will attack and hen up to Alpha 1, 2, and 3 to teach them her peeps are not on the menu. I have learned that the 6' X 10' pen will be defended even if she is not in it with her peeps. Now, I have seen everything!

A tiny 17 day old chick, will, and just did, stand its ground and pick at A hen. That to me was amassing. They see mom, pick and chase, they are protected, so, when this one found itself several feet from mom, a hen (Lucy) came over picking at the ground, she (I think, has advanced feathers and a brush tail) picked at her. Stood and waited. Nothing happened, it did make Lucy stop and look at her. After 30 sec, the chick turned and ran to mama and the group.

What dose this mean? With a mother they actually grows up to be braver, automatically born higher on the picking order, do to confidence. In the past it has been frightening letting peeps out even at 6 weeks, to join free ranging. At 8 weeks, at 16 weeks the young pullets are not really fully merged in to the flock. I can see why people have said with a mama, peeps as they become pullets are accepted more quickly.

I am so great full I am not working, I am able to observe my girls. If or when I go back to work I am going to have to get cameras to record what they do. Chicken theater is great.

I truly believe that is so... they do better with a Mama to teach them. I incubate a lot each year, but encourage any broody hen to accept another's eggs if i can because I find them to grow up smarter, and definitely braver. At least in my experience, they seem like better to be accepted quickly into the flock as well, like you said in the pecking order. Seems that way in my backyard anyway...
Plus I love spending time watching the Moms teach them... I watched a Bantam hen showing her teenee lil babes how to leap on these down trees once...ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!

Not on BYC lol they nailed me for "implied profanity" lol hey now...
:yuckyuck I think you don't resemble that remark!!!

"Implied Profanity"? Was that on your Cornish thread? I saw where the staff had edited one of your posts but I never asked you why that happened.

My radio channel is Public Radio, were ever I am.
{ example: Before it was announced the Marvel was taking control of Spider Man, I noticed a lot was going on in interviews on NPR. Then I lessoned to a couple of movie set movers (truck drivers) talking, I picked up a couple of words that set off bells. My sister is the trustee of inheritance I have. I called her asked her if I had $10,000.00, ok, then $5,000.00. I asked her to buy $5,000.00 in Marvel for me. Of course, being a protective sister, the answer was No. Then she called me a few days later and told me she bought a 5 year CD and I would make something like 4.xx % and other stuff I do not understand! what I did understand! no Marvel Stock, and I would have no access to $5,000.00 if I really needed it for 5 years. A few years ago, my sister asked me if I still want Marvel stock? A friend of her husband made $$$$$$$ when he sold his that he bought at $$$$:$$. I said no, time to by was over 10 yrs ago.}

They were interviewing directors and producers of a cowboy period move, they went true great pains to be 100% accurate, in EVERY way, including speech. There were surprises, there was a lot more words that have gone out of fashion. A difference in education was pronounced in speaking. Those subtleties were important to historians. The move shot and now reviewing the film. They said they walked out saying...... We are going to lose our shirts. No one will believe the ruff necks as being ruff, the filth of the earth as being filth. So the rewrote the script, changing the worst of the worst profanity and the profane of 1880 to 2005 profane. Words that you may hear in polite society of 1880 are now profane, the worst profanity is no heard and often used by church going people. The movies was a success, the writers and researchers, along with the money people that wanted this noble 100% accurate movies were devastated.... BUT rich.

Language... Who would have thought. F-U-C-K still meant "fornication under consent of the King", they may look at you strangely and said, "we do not have a king and we do not need permission to propagate, and it is quite improper to approach this subject in the presents of gentle Lady's. Such improprieties are not appreciated." On the other hand, take the Lords name in vain..... Ladies would pass out or swoon, and a proper gentle man would offer to take you out back and teach you a lesson. You also, if not suitable apologies could be forbidden to come on to the property again, or end up in jail. Just saying OMG, you would be pointed at in church, made to apologies to the community if you were in good standing. If you said the words instead of spelling....... Just don't go there. At one time punishment was public whippings.

To say I find censorship interesting sense I learned about swearing and did a little research on my own. What happened to you had a lot to do as to were and when. Let me say this Daniel Boon would have turned red and been in shock if he heard any female and most males if he heard O M G.

Next up "Hot tomato!" And my great grandmother being visited from the local Morality League, because my grand mother eat a tomato in public! Most in descent thing to do.

Hi there! I am up north, so my breeding, hatching and selling/trading is probably not much help. But, there are a chunk of daily active people on here who are very chatty and helpful much closer to you, so give them some time to respond and I'm sure you will find what you need!
If not, give me a pm, and i can forward you the names/numbers of 2 other people I interact with up here...
ANd WELCOME!!!

There are a lot of buy/sell groups on facebook for Louisiana and I will hopefully have some pretty soon - mostly fancy breeds. What are you looking for?
